The Plant Resources And New Taxa And Cultivars Of Yulania Spach

Xinyi plants belong to the genus of Yulania Spach of the family of Magnoliaceae, which are material of virescence, garden, Chinese medicine and essential oil, and play an important part in forest, landscape and water conservation. Based on many years research on Yulania, this paper have published some new finds and results that Yulania Spach is first resumed based on morphology, procreant insulation with Magnolia and some DNA data of Magnoliaceae. it is first clarified that the history and distribution of Xinyi (Y quinquepeta), whose synonym is Magnolia biondii Panip, not iliiflora? not Mulan. The evolutionary and development tendency of Yulania characters is discussed and some new points is put forward. Based on the points, the new system of Yulania is established. The variation of Yulania plant and cultivar resources has been expatiated and 5 new combinatorial hybrid species are published and some new cultivars have been selected. The genetic test for 7 cultivars of Xinyi has been tested and the selective index for Xinyi yield is established. The physiological parameters of Y quinquepela, Y liii jflora, Y heptapeta, Y axill~jlora and Y wugangensis are mensurated. The bases of resuming Yulania is morphological differences and procreant insulation with Magnolia and some DNA data of Magnoliaceae. Yulania are deciduous, prolepsis. The folia of Yulania are chartaceous, do not cluster into the base of branches. The stipules adhibit to petiole and there are stipule cicatricle at the base. The flower buds ovate, who has scale 1 ? and have dense long pubes on outside. The spathe 1, membranaceous and has pubes on outside, rare 2. The flower are erect and open before folia, rare at the same time. The pedicel are not elongate. The? powder chamber dehisce on side and the filaments are shorter than anthers. The simplici-pistils are separate and have 2 ovules. The syncarpa are cylindrical, rare ovate, usually crooked. The folliculi are ovate which usually have no beak and some are inadequacy developed. Yulania is insulated with Magnolia in procreation, because their flowering date is staggered. Some DNA data of Magnoliaceae sustain to resume Yulania also. Yzdania Spach are mainly distributed in Asia and China is the center of the genus. It is first clarified that the synonym of Xinyi, Lassonia quinquepeta published by P. J. Buc抙oz, is Magnolia biondii, which can be verified by the ancient literature of China, the morphological characteristic of the type, the distribution and current cultivation of Xinyi in China. Magnolia Iiliqlora is not the synonym of Lassonia quinquepeta, which is usually regarded as that. Mulan, another Chinese name regarded as Xinyi, is not also synonym of Xinyi, which should be some species of Manglietia or Michelia. The new viewpoints of evolutionary are put forward, such as that the outer whorl petals calyx-like is original, the scale of flower bud is derived from stipule, but spathe is from leaf. The taxological characters of Yulania are the characteristic of trunk, bark, leaf, flowering, flower buds, spathe, petal, androecium, gynoecium, syncarpa and folliculus. The inserted site of flower bud, flowering characteristic, the shape of outer petals, the site of spathe are main characters.
