During the period of the Republic of China(1912-1949),under the background of the spread of Western learning to the East,traditional Chinese medicine was impacted by western medicine and faced a severe test.The purpose of traditional Chinese medicine was to develop traditional Chinese medicine.When learning the advantages of Western medicine,traditional Chinese medicine also paid attention to its own innovation.Therefore,the TCM literature in this period has distinct characteristics of the times and discussion value.Mr.Zhang Juying once said:"there are a vast number of books and periodicals of traditional Chinese medicine,but the most valuable information is the first medical case that can integrate theory with practice." By comparing the catalogue books,the author investigates the medical case works of the Republic of China,and summarizes the types and characteristics of medical case works and the naming methods of diseases in medical cases during the period of the Republic of China.Based on the above investigation and taking diseases as the starting point,this paper studies the understanding and treatment characteristics of doctors in the Republic of China on cough,thirst,spermatorrhea,gout,beriberi and other diseases by comparing and analyzing the medical case works before the Republic of China.This paper summarizes the cough disease in medical case works during the period of the Republic of China,including pneumonia,acute bronchitis,bronchiolitis,chronic bronchitis,bronchiolitis wheezing,bronchiectasis,corrupt bronchitis,acute pneumonia and so on.Most doctors have the same understanding of etiology and pathogenesis as their predecessors,mainly divided into three types:external infection,internal injury and inflammation.In terms of treatment,it is also one of the characteristics of cough treatment by doctors in the Republic of China to treat cough disease with western drugs such as shikeda Lisi,siduofangsi and anzhibilin.Doctors in the Republic of China first put forward the link between xiaoke and diabetes.During the period of the Republic of China,most cases of diabetes were followed by predecessors’ experience and nourishing Yin as the main treatment.Doctors linked xiaoke to the pancreas.For the first time,the pig pancreas was used in the treatment of the disease,and the application of sodium salicylate in the treatment of xiaoke was the characteristic of this period’s medical practitioners in the treatment of diabetes.It should be noted that through consulting the above information on diabetes,the author believes that xiaoke and diabetes are not the same.Xiaoke should include diabetes,that is,diabetes is a kind of diabetes,and it is a relationship between xiaoke and diabetes.Diabetes mellitus in medical records includes the symptoms of "more than three or a few" which are based on modern diagnosis of diabetes,and also includes evidence of elimination or stomach fire or other diseases similar to xiaoke.During the period of the Republic of China,with the development of economy and education,spermatorrhea gradually became a disease of the times.Doctors in the Republic of China had a new understanding of spermatorrhea.In addition to the common causes of heart,spleen and kidney,some doctors believed that spermatorrhea was also related to the relaxation of prostate.There was also a special drug smelly Cao of Western medicine in the treatment of spermatorrhea.The treatment method was a combination of Chinese and Western medicine,Are the characteristics of the treatment of spermatorrhea in the period of the Republic of China.During the period of the Republic of China,most doctors continued the traditional methods of eliminating rheumatism,eliminating wind and phlegm and dredging collaterals to treat gout,and had a new understanding of gout.They believed that gout was a metabolic disease related to the accumulation of uric acid,and began to use aspirin and other Western drugs to treat gout.The understanding of beriberi by doctors in the Republic of China and before the Republic of China is not tinea pedis referred to in modern medicine,but a disease dominated by dampness evil,even attacking the heart and easily evolving into critical illness.During the period of the Republic of China,doctors not only recognized and treated the disease mainly from the pathogenic factors and pathogenesis,but also pointed out that the disease was caused by the lack of a vitamin in food.On the one hand,the medical community thought that it was an infectious disease with leprosy,which was unable to identify microorganisms.On the other hand,according to modern Oriental researchers,the composition of microorganisms was incomplete,but it was generally believed that there must be other reasons besides the lack of biotin.In a word,The root cause of beriberi,or a toxin caused by metabolic disorder due to lack of living elements,is common in metropolises or seaside,with more men than women.
