Objective:The aim of the present study was to investigate the current status of depression and quality of life of medical staff in emergency and critical care departments of Class ⅲGrade A hospitals in Shanxi Province and analyze its influencing factors. To explore the internal influence mechanism of depression on quality of life.So as to help the medical staff in emergency and critical care departments to reduce depression, improve their mental health level and quality of life to provide a scientific basis. Methods:This study was a cross-sectional study. From August to September 2022,convenience sampling was used to investigate 450 medical staff in emergency and critical care departments from 5 Classⅲ Grade-A hospitals in Taiyuan,Shanxi Province.General Information Questionnaire,Self-rating Depression Scale,World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Scale,Personal Coping Style Questionnaire, and Perceived Organizational Support Scale were used to investigate.EXCEL software was used for data entry and SPSS25.0 software was used for data analysis.Quantitative data were expressed in the form of mean ± standard deviation, and t test and analysis of variance were used for comparison between groups.Qualitative data were expressed in the form of frequency(percentage),and chi-square test was used for comparison between groups.Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between variables.Multivariate logistic regression and multiple linear regression were used for multivariate analysis. The PROCESS plug-in was used to test the mediating effect of perceived organizational support and coping style between depression and quality of life and construct a path relationship model.Results:1.In this research,A total of 450 questionnaires were distributed and 442 questionnaires were recovered,434 questionnaires were valid, representing a recovery rate of 98.2%.In this study, the average age of 434 medical staff in the emergency and critical care department was 33.09±6.51 years old.302 cases(69.6%)were married;373cases(85.9%)had bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees. There were 117 doctors(27%)and 317 nurses(73%);The average working life was 8.91±6.12 years.2.Among 434 medical staff in emergency and critical care departments,50.23% had no depression,49.77% had depression.According to the degree of depression,26.73%had mild depression,12.9% had moderate depression,6.22% had moderate and severe depression, and 3.92% had severe depression.Among 434 medical staff in emergency and intensive care units, the average score of depression was(6.11 ± 5.97),and the average score of items was(0.68±0.66).The average scores of three dimensions from high to low were physical, emotional and self-evaluation.The results of multivariate analysis showed that the influencing factors of depression of medical staff in emergency and critical care departments included work pressure, education background, exercise frequency, positive coping style, and perceived organizational support.3.The average score of quality of life of 434 medical staff in emergency and critical care departments was(54.71±2.54),and the average score of items was(2.28±0.40).The average score of four dimensions from high to low was physiological domain, the social relationship domain, psychological domain, and environmental domain.Among the four dimensions of quality of life, physical and psychological domains were lower than the norm; The environmental domain was higher than the norm, and this difference was found to be statistically significant(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis results, from large to small, the effects on the quality of life of medical staff were depression, perceived organizational support, positive coping, monthly income, exercise frequency, and work pressure, these variables can be accumulated to explain 65.5% of the total variation of the quality of life.4.The correlation analysis demonstrated that depression was negatively correlated with quality of life, perceived organizational support and coping style(r =-0.681,-0.450,-0.389,respectively,all P<0.01).Quality of life was positively correlated with perceived organizational support and coping style(r = 0.626,0.486,respectively,all P<0.01).5.Depressive mood of medical personnel can directly predict the quality of life negatively, and the direct effect is 67.7% of the total effect;perceived organizational support and coping style mediated the predictive effect of depression on quality of life separately; In addition, perceived organizational support and coping style sequentially mediated the relation between depression and quality of life, and the mediating effect accounted for 23.3%,5.8%,and 3.2%.Conclusions:1.Depression was common among medical staff in the emergency and critical care departments of five tertiary hospitals in Taiyuan,Shanxi Province. The physical and psychological domains of quality of life were lower than the norm, and the environmental domain was higher than the norm.2.Educational background, exercise frequency, work pressure, organizational support, and positive coping styles influence the depression of medical staff in emergency and critical care departments.Monthly income, frequency of exercise, depression, work stress, perceived organizational support, and positive coping styles have effects on the quality of life of medical staff in the emergency and critical care department.3.The greater the level of depression, the lower the sense of organizational support, the higher the level of job stress and the more negative coping style, the lower the quality of life of the medical staff in the emergency and critical care departments. The lower the level of depression, the stronger the sense of organizational support, and the more positive the coping style, the higher the quality of life of the medical staff in the emergency and critical care departments.4.Depressive mood of medical personnel can directly predict the quality of life negatively.Quality of life can also be indirectly affected by perceived organizational support or coping styles, and the chain mediating role of organizational support and coping styles. Therefore, hospital managers should take corresponding measures to reduce the depression of emergency and critical care medical staff, provide strong organizational support, guide and encourage medical staff to think positively,so as to promote mental health and the quality of life.
