| Through a report published by the International Cancer Centre in 2022,China has become the country with the highest number of new cancer cases and deaths in the world due to its large population base.In recent years,an increasing proportion of the population has been affected by cancer, which can be very devastating not only to the individual patient and family, but also to the stable development of society as a whole. The impact of the mental health status of cancer patients on their condition has then also received a great deal of attention from the fields of psychology and medicine.Academics have mostly focused directly on the relationship between levels of positive thoughts and negative emotions, while further in-depth studies on the complexity of the relationship between the two, especially the mediating variables that influence the relationship, are lacking.Perceived social support and psychological resilience,an important concept in positive psychology, have often been studied as mediating variables. This study explores the characteristics and relationships between positive thoughts, perceived social support, psychological resilience and negative emotions in cancer patients, based on the theoretical study of positive thoughts in regulating emotions, and expands the horizon of related research.Aims: This study selected the level of positive thoughts, perceived social support, psychological resilience and negative emotions as variables to provide theoretical support for the expansion of empirical research on the level of positive thoughts and the improvement of negative emotions.METHODS: The study assessed 417 cancer patients from Jiangxi Provincial Chinese Medicine Hospital using the Positive Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale,Appreciative Social Support Scale,Psychological Resilience Scale and Positive and Negative Emotions Scale.SPSS 26.0 with PROCESS was used to perform descriptive statistics,t-test,ANOVA,correlation analysis, regression analysis and mediating effect test on the data information. The results of this study were as follows:1.women scored significantly higher than men on the dimensions of positive thinking level, social apprehension support and psychological resilience;patients from rural areas scored higher on negative affect than those from urban areas in terms of place of residence;patients with better economic status scored higher on the dimensions of resilience and optimism;patients whose cancer had metastasised scored significantly higher on negative affect than those whose cancer had not metastasised.2.There was a significant correlation between the level of positive thinking and perceived social support, psychological resilience and negative emotion in cancer patients(p<0.01).Among them, there was a significant positive correlation between the level of positive thoughts and perceived social support,a significant positive correlation with psychological resilience, and a significant negative correlation with negative emotions;there was a significant positive correlation between perceived social support and psychological resilience, and a significant negative correlation with negative emotions in cancer patients;there was a significant negative correlation between psychological resilience and negative emotions in cancer patients.3.The level of positive thoughts of cancer patients was a significant predictor of their negative mood;the level of positive thoughts also significantly predicted perceived social support and psychological resilience;perceived social support and psychological resilience were significant predictors of negative mood.4.The level of positive thoughts in cancer patients both directly predicted negative mood and indirectly predicted negative mood through the perception of social support and psychological resilience. The direct effect of positive affect on negative affect accounted for 55% of the total effect, the indirect effect of positive affect on negative affect through perceived social support accounted for 6% of the total effect, and the indirect effect of positive affect on negative affect through psychological resilience accounted for 25% of the total effect;perceived social support and psychological resilience mediated the chain effect between positive affect and negative affect, with the mediating effect accounting for 14% of the total effect. This study concludes that positive affect, perceived social support, psychological resilience and negative affect in patients with cancer are related to each other. The negative emotions of cancer patients were not only directly influenced by their level of positive thinking, but also by their perceived social support and psychological resilience,in turn, which influenced their negative emotions. Therefore,in the future treatment of cancer patients, medical staff can pay more attention to the psychological health of cancer patients and try to improve the level of positive thinking through positive thinking training,in order to reduce the patient’s negative emotional experience and thus better treatment. |
