Objective: From the perspectives of general demographic characteristics, disease characteristics and health literacy level, the SF-36 scale and the Health Literacy Scale for Patients with Chronic Diseases were applied to conduct a questionnaire survey to analyse the factors affecting the quality of life of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee(KOA)in a hospital,as well as to clarify the general demographic characteristics of KOA patients with low health literacy,to determine whether the quality of life of KOA patients can be improved by increasing health literacy, and to provide a scientific basis for formulating strategies to improve the quality of life of KOA patients. Methods: In this study,KOA patients in a hospital in Changchun City were used as the study population, and convenience sampling was used to survey KOA patients who met the inclusion criteria.Three different questionnaires were used: a general demographic questionnaire, the Short Form of Health Survey(SF-36 scale),and the Health Literacy Scale for Patients with Chronic Diseases. The data were entered using Excel 2019,a database was made, and SPSS 20.0 was used to perform statistical analysis on the information. The measurement data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation(X ±S)and the count data were expressed as composition ratio.Comparisons between two groups were made by t-test for measurement data,ANOVA for comparison of multiple sample means, and chi-square test for comparison of count data;linear regression and dichotomous logistic regression were used to analyse the influencing factors.Differences were considered statistically significant at P<0.05.Results: 1.The eight dimensions of quality of life scores of the 252 KOA patients in a hospital surveyed were physical function(76.01 ± 10.26),role physical(54.76 ± 11.90),body pain(57.78 ± 10.64),general health(49.98 ±11.98),energy(66.21 ± 6.74),social function(75.30±10.64),role motional(39.95±14.59)and mental health(70.71±7.15).The physical function, social function, and mental health dimensions all received quite high scores, while the general health and emotional function dimensions received relatively low scores. All were statistically significantly lower(p<0.001)when compared with the Chinese General Population Quality of Life norm developed by Pan Tingfang.2.In the univariate analysis of general demographic characteristics, disease characteristics and health literacy level on quality of life, gender, age, body mass index, marital status, education level, occupational status, monthly per capita household income, duration of illness and health literacy level were the influencing factors on quality of life of KOA patients in a hospital(p<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis concluded that gender, age, body mass index, marital status, and duration of illness could significantly and negatively influence the physical health dimension of quality of life.Factors such as education level and health literacy level could significantly and positively influence the physical health and mental health dimensions of quality of life.3.Analysis of health literacy levels revealed that the total health literacy score of KOA patients in a hospital was(96.94±8.98),of which 88 patients(34.92%)had a score of 96 or less,i.e.,inadequate health literacy.KOA patients with poorer levels of health literacy were more likely to be older, less educated, and have lower per capita monthly family income. Conclusion: 1.The quality of life scores of KOA patients in a hospital were generally at a low to medium level, with a large gap between the dimensions of quality of life status and the general population.2.The quality of life score of KOA patients in a hospital is related to gender, body mass index, age, marital status, education level, disease duration and health literacy level.Interventions should be given to improve the quality of life of patients by targeting relevant factors.3.The health literacy of KOA patients in a hospital was at an intermediate level. The general demographic characteristics of KOA patients with low health literacy are higher age, lower education level, and lower per capita monthly household income.Health care professionals may consider incorporating health literacy screening for KOA patients into their routine work and focus on patients with low health literacy.
