Objective: To investigate the effect of disposable balloon catheter for lleostomy on the postoperative outcome of patients by comparing the use of disposable balloon catheter for lleostomy in laparoscopic versus open surgery for colorectal cancer. Methods: A retrospective review was performed of the clinical data of 35 patients who underwent curative surgery for colorectal cancer at the Department of Gastroenterological Surgery,Yijishan hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College, from March 2021 to March 2023 and used a disposable balloon catheter for lleostomy,Colorectal cancer cases were divided into two groups according to laparoscopic colorectal cancer radical surgery versus open surgery: 1.Laparoscopic colorectal cancer radical surgery plus disposable balloon catheter for lleostomy(endoscopic group),a total of 16 cases;2.Underwent open radical surgery of colorectal cancer plus disposable balloon catheter for lleostomy(open group),a total of 19 cases.Data were analyzed by comparing the time required for surgery, incidence of postoperative anastomotic leak, ileus, postoperative abdominal infection, time to the first flatus after surgery, total postoperative hospital days, total hospital costs, and stoma related complications between the two groups. Results: General clinical data results p-values were greater than 0.05 in both the endoscopic and open groups, with no significant difference, and anastomotic leak rates of 0%(0 / 16)and 5%(1 / 19),respectively;The incidences of ileus were 6%(1 / 16)5%(1 / 19);Stoma related complication rates were 0.0%(0 / 16)and 0%(0 / 19),respectively;The incidences of other related complications were 6%(1 / 16)and 21%(4/ 19),respectively,neither of which was statistically different(P > 0.05)。Exhaust times were(3.13 ± 1.20)D and(4.26 ± 1.52)d,respectively;The length of hospital stay was(14.85 ± 2.16)D and(16.93 ± 3.52)d,respectively,with statistical significance between the two groups(P < 0.05).Conclusions: Disposable balloon catheter for lleostomy has excellent usage in both laparoscopic and open colorectal cancer radical surgery and is able to effectively prevent the occurrence of anastomotic leak; Moreover,in laparoscopic compared with open surgery, patients in the endoscopic group recovered faster and patients spent less time in hospital compared with the open group. For patients who may need to undergo prophylactic ostomy, disposable balloon catheter for lleostomy reduces trauma on the patient’s body, improves the patient’s postoperative quality of life, and reduces the patient’s sense of illness, which is worth applying and promoting in colorectal cancer surgery.
