Objective:COVID-19 affects public health and causes psychological problems among medical staff.The Chinese government has opened up a number of psychological assistance hotlines to conduct psychological evaluation and intervention for the people.Vicarious traumatization is a phenomenon that psychotherapists are involuntarily affected during the long-term contact with patients with mental illness.It often appears in the face of cruel and destructive disasters,and its damage degree exceeds the psychological and emotional bearing capacity,and indirectly leads to psychological abnormalities.The incidence of vicarious traumatization of psychological counselors is increased,and the number of trauma or high-risk cases is increasing,increasing the possibility of negative effects.Vicarious traumatization can affect the meaning and cognitive beliefs of life,and continuously affect all levels of life.Empathy refers to the ability to recognize and share the emotional states of others,which plays an important role in individual survival and social interaction.Empathy technique is the longest used technique in psychological counseling and treatment.Strong empathy can help the consultant understand the client,and avoid the emotional involvement of the consultant,affected by the client,leading to harm to themselves.This study identified the vicarious traumatization and empathy factors of 356 psychological trauma counselors.Methods:From February 24 to March 24,2020,356 psychological counselors were selected using the general data questionnaire,Theref Scale(TBS)and the Chinese Interpersonal Response Pointer Scale(IRI-C).Results:(1)Of the 365 psychological counselors,44.4%(158 / 356)had vicarious traumatization.The level of vicarious traumatization is high and the empathy ability is high.(2)The counselors of different genders have significant differences in vicarious traumatization,the scores of different working years,the longer the working years,the lower the scores of different theoretical orientation of the counselors,the lower the scores of vicarious traumatization.(3)In gender,age,daily residence,the work unit,engaged in psychological counseling fixed number of year,engaged in individual psychological counseling hours,engaged in hotline counseling experience,whether involved in emergency psychological assistance,main counseling theory orientation,cumulative connection number,hotline work whether to participate in professional supervision,weekly in professional supervision hours and empathy ability,the vicarious traumatization positive number difference has statistical significance.(4)Female sex,young age,daily residence and low empathy may be risk factors for the vicarious traumatization of the hotline,and the more hours of individual counseling and longer weekly hours of professional supervision may be protective factors for the vicarious traumatization of the hotline.Conclusion:Psychological counselors are at greater risk of vicarious traumatization,especially for women,young people,living around the epidemic and with low empathy.
