Theoretical Study Of Traditional Chinese Medicine On Empathy

Empathy means that understanding and experiencing the emotions of others,on the basis of successfully distinguish between ourselves and others.This helps us accurately judge the behavior of others,obtain effective information to adapt to the environment,and promote social communication,which has vital biological and sociological significance.If individuals have problems with empathy,then they often have difficulty recognizing and sharing the feelings of others,thus failing to grasp their needs at a fast speed,leading to deviations in coping with various behaviors.This not only has side effects on interpersonal communication,resulting in a decline in social functions,and may even exacerbate the occurrence of anti-social behavior.After a lot of clinical research,the manifestation of empathy defects in psychological and mental disorders is one of the main causes of social dysfunction in these patients.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)believes that the organ function will be manifested through spiritual,conscious and thinking activities after being stimulated by the outside world,even though it doesn’t provide some room for empathy.As a kind of spiritual and conscious activity,empathy is closely related to the internal organs that Chinese medicine focuses on.Insufficient energy and dysfunction can cause empathy to lose its material base,and different types and degrees of defects then occur.There is relatively little research at present on this aspect in the Chinese-exclusive field.The discussion of its occurrence and development mechanism may provide ideas for the study of empathy and also theoretical basis for the improvement of empathy defects in TCM.To summarize,guided by basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine,coupled with the help of the literature research method in sorting out the empathy process,this article summarizes the TCM syndromes due to empathy defects,and theoretically analyzes the four common symptoms of schizophrenia,epilepsy,depression,autism/autism,which helps to explain in a systematical manner the theoretical connotation of Chinese medicine in the occurrence and development of empathy,thereby revealing the possible mechanism of empathy defect and the internal organs.The main contents of this study include:the relationship between the mechanism of empathy and viscera;common TCM syndromes related to empathy defects;and theoretical analysis of common resulting diseases.The research makes a reality the following conclusions by analyzing theoretical models of empathy,related literatures and common diseases of empathy defects.1.Empathy mostly affected the four internal organs of the heart,liver,spleen,and kidney.Based on the kidney,empathy is dominated by the heart,and regulated and supported by the spleen and liver respectively.2.Empathy defects mostly manifested as the syndrome of phlegm and internal disturbance,of both heart and spleen deficiency,of liver and spleen depression,and of liver and kidney deficiency.3.For schizophrenics,this may be the result of kidney injury,because empathy shift is the basic reason of the disease.For epilepsy patients,phlegm and weak spleen affect each other,which leads to the decline of cognitive empathy.The lack of ministerial fire is the root of the empathic disorder in depression.In addition,people with autism are deeply affected.It must be admitted that congenital deficiency and lack of kidney essence are the root causes of autism.
