OBJECTIVE: Based on the American STEADI toolkit, this study formulated an intervention program to prevent falls for elderly inpatients in the Department of Respiratory Medicine, and to explore the application effect of the program on preventing falls in elderly inpatients in the department of Respiratory Medicine.METHODS: Based on the STEADI toolkit, combined with the stage transition model, literature review and expert group meeting method, this study formed an intervention program for falls in elderly inpatients in the Department of Respiratory Medicine based on the STEADI toolkit through pre-experiment.Elderly inpatients aged≥60 years admitted to the Department of Respiratory Medicine of a Class ⅲ Grade hospital, which is in Lanzhou, from July 2022 to December 2022 were selected. The first area and the second area of respiratory medicine were set as the experimental group and the control group, respectively. Before the intervention, both groups filled in the general information questionnaire and the FRQ scale, and the knowledge,Attitude and Practice Scale of Elderly Inpatients participating in Fall Prevention was used to measure the level of knowledge, practice and belief. The experimental group adopted the comprehensive intervention program based on STEADI toolkit for fall management and prevention, and the intervention continued for one month after discharge. The control group was guided by conventional fall intervention measures.Outcome indicators: the scores of knowledge, attitude and practice on falls of the two groups before and after intervention;Incidence of falls during hospitalization.RESULTS:1.Based on the STEADI toolkit, combined with the stage transition model, the intervention program for falls in elderly inpatients in the Department of Respiratory Medicine was formed through pre-experiment by using the expert group meeting method and literature review method.2.By convenience sampling,a total of 118 patients were included in the treatment group and the control group, each group have 59 cases. The intervention events were from admission to 1 month after discharge.Patients were followed up during hospitalization,10 days after discharge, and 1 month after discharge.During the process,2 patients dropped out in each group.Finally,57 patients in each group completed the scheme and were included, with a total of 114 patients.3.Comparison of baseline data: before this intervention, there was no significant difference in the data of general demographic, that including gender and age between the two groups(P > 0.05).At the same time, there was no significant difference in FRQ score and fall knowledge, practice and attitude score between the two groups(P > 0.05),which was comparable.4.When the intervention ended, the scores of knowledge, practice and belief of falling of the treatment group were more higher than the score of the control group,.The difference between them was statistically significant(P < 0.05).5.The number of falls in the experimental group was less than the number of the control group, the difference between them was statistically significant(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: 1.This fall intervention program based on STEADI toolkit used in this study can effectively improve the level of fall knowledge, attitude and behavior of elderly inpatients in respiratory department.2.The fall intervention program for elderly inpatients in respiratory department based on STEADI toolkit used in this study can effectively reduce the incidence of falls and falls.
