Objective: To understand the basic status of schizophrenia patients and their families in Gansu Province,to analyze the factors influencing the quality of life of patients and the life satisfaction of patients’ families, and to further explore the mediating role of family burden in the influence of social support on the quality of life of schizophrenia patients and the life satisfaction of their families. Methods: In this study,a multistage stratified whole-group sampling method was used to investigate the demographic and behavioral characteristics, illness, patient quality of life, patient social support, family burden of patient’s family, and family life satisfaction of 358 patients with schizophrenia in Gansu Province.A cross-sectional study method was used to describe the basic profile and scale scores of the study participants. To explore the effect of basic patient conditions on quality of life and family life satisfaction of schizophrenia patients by two independent samples t-test,one-way ANOVA and rank sum test.Spearman correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between family family burden, patient social support and patient quality of life, and patient family life satisfaction.Next, multiple linear regression and quantile regression were used to analyze variables that were statistically significant for patient quality of life and family life satisfaction scores in the univariate and correlation analyses. Finally,AMOS 24.0 was applied to develop a mediation model to examine the mediating role of family household burden between patient social support and family life satisfaction, and between patient social support and patient quality of life. Results: 1.The total score of the quality of life scale for schizophrenia patients in this study was 123.45±39.21.The psychosocial dimension score was 36.67,the motivation and energy dimension score was 57.14,and the symptoms and side effects dimension score was 25.00.Family members of schizophrenic patients scored 10 on the satisfaction with life scale.2.The results of t-test,one-way ANOVA,and rank sum test showed that the effects of patients’ education, drinking status, sleep time, exercise, family history of psychiatric-related diseases, symptom type, years of illness,self-care status, presence of somatic co-morbidities,medication type, and number of relapses on their total quality of life scores were statistically significant(P < 0.05).The effects of sleep time, exercise, family history of psychiatric-related disorders, symptom type, years of illness,self-care status, medication type, medication frequency, and number of relapses on psychosocial dimension scores were statistically significant(P < 0.05).The effects of patients’ drinking status, sleep time, symptom type,self-care status, and number of relapses on motivation and energy dimension scores were statistically significant(P <0.05).The effects of patients’ age, drinking status, sleep duration, exercise, family history of psychiatric-related disorders, symptom type,self-care status, somatic comorbidity, medication type, and number of relapses on the symptom and side effect dimension scores were statistically significant(P < 0.05).The effects of patients’ exercise status, symptom type, years of illness,self-care status, medication frequency, and number of relapses on the life satisfaction scores of patients’ families were statistically significant(P < 0.05).3.Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was a significant negative correlation between social support and total quality of life score, psychosocial dimension score, symptom and side effect dimension score(P < 0.01),a significant positive correlation between patient family burden and total quality of life score, psychosocial dimension score, motivation and energy dimension score, symptom and side effect dimension score(P < 0.01),a significant positive correlation between patient social support and patient’s family life satisfaction was significantly positively correlated(P < 0.01),and a significant negative correlation was found between family burden of family members and family life satisfaction(P < 0.01).4.Multiple linear regression results showed that patient’s education, sleep time, family history of psychiatric-related disorders, symptom type,self-care status, medication type, number of relapses, social support, and family burden of family members were factors influencing the total quality of life score of schizophrenia patients(P < 0.05).Quantile regression results indicated that patients’ sleep time, exercise, family history of psychiatric-related disorders, type of symptoms, number of relapses, and family burden of family members were influential factors for psychosocial dimensions(P < 0.05).Patients’ drinking status, sleep time, symptom type,self-care status, number of relapses, and family home burden of family members were influential factors for the motivation and energy dimensions(P < 0.05).Patients’ age, sleep time, family history of psychiatric-related disorders, symptom type,self-care status, number of relapses, social support, and family burden of family members were the influencing factors for the symptom and side effect dimensions(P < 0.05).Patient symptom type, years of illness, medication frequency, social support, and family household burden were the influencing factors for patient family life satisfaction(P < 0.05).5.The direct effect of patients’ social support on their families’ life satisfaction was0.53(95% CI: 0.33-0.64)and the mediating effect of families’ family burden between the two was 0.15(95% CI: 0.11-0.21),with the mediating effect accounting for 22.57%of the total effect size;Family household burden played a fully mediated role in the effect of patients’ social support on their quality of life, with a mediating effect of-0.33(95% CI:-0.42 to-0.24).Conclusions: 1.The quality of life of schizophrenia patients and the life satisfaction of patients’ families in Gansu Province need to be improved.2.Age,education level, drinking status, sleep time, exercise, family history of psychiatric-related disorders, symptom type,self-care status, medication type, number of relapses, social support, and family and household burden of family members were factors influencing the quality of life of patients with schizophrenia.3.Patient symptom type, years of illness, medication frequency, social support, and family household burden were factors influencing the life satisfaction of patients’ families.4.Family home burden plays a fully mediated role between the social support received by the patient and the patient’s quality of life, and a partially mediated role between the social support received by the patient and the family’s life satisfaction.
