Objective: To analyze the clinical effect of Shao’s lung-protecting exercise combined with auricular point pressing on the quality of life of elderly patients after lung cancer surgery, and to explore the correlation between traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) constitution types and related outcome measures. Methods: Ninety-six elderly patients after lung cancer surgery were selected from Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of traditional Chinese medicine from July 3,2019 to April 9,2020.Patients were divided into treatment group according to their voluntary will("Shao’s lung-protecting exercise" combined with auricular point pressing)and blank control group with the stratified and control methods. The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy – Lung(FACT-L),TCM syndrome scores and lung function were evaluated at the time of enrollment,12 weeks after intervention and 1 year after enrollment, meanwhile, the TCM constitution types of patients were recorded by TCM constitution classification and judgment scale to comprehend the clinical efficacy of Shao’s lung-protecting exercise combined with auricular point pressing on the quality of life of elderly patients after lung cancer surgery and the correlation between TCM constitution types and related outcome measures. Results: 1.There is no significant difference in gender, age, body mass index(BMI),duration of disease and tumor stage between the two groups(p>0.05),which is comparable.2.(1)Before treatment, there were significant differences in the total score and some subscales of FACT-L between the two groups(p<0.05),covariance analysis was used to make FACT-L comparable.(2)After 12 weeks of intervention, the subscale scores of Physical Well-Being(PWB),Functional Well-Being(FWB),Lung Cancer Subscale(LCS)and total scores of FACT-L in the treatment group were improved(p<0.05),and the difference of PWB,FWB,Social/Family Well-Being(SWB),LCS and FACT-L in12 weeks was significantly improved compared with the control group(p<0.05).(3)One year after enrollment, the score of PWB,SWB,FWB,LCS subscales and total scores of FACT-L in the treatment group were higher than those before enrolling the group(p<0.05),the difference of those scores of scales in 1 year were significantly improved with the control group(p<0.05).3.(1)There is a significant difference in TCM syndrome scores between the two groups before treatment(p<0.05),covariance analysis was used to make it comparable.(2)After 12 weeks of intervention, the main symptoms, secondary symptoms and total scores of TCM syndromes in the two groups were improved(p<0.05).Compared with control group, the difference of those scores in 12 weeks in treatment group were all significantly improved(p<0.05).(3)One year after enrollment, the main symptoms, secondary symptoms and total scores of TCM syndromes in the two groups were improved(p<0.05).Compared with control group, the difference of those scores in 1 year in the treatment group were significantly improved(p<0.05).4.(1)There was no significant difference in forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1),the percentage of FEV1 in predicted value(FEV1/Pred%),forced vital capacity(FVC),vital capacity(VC),the percentage of VC in predicted value(VC/Pred%)and the ratio of FEV1 to measured value of FVC(FEV1/FVC%)between the two groups before treatment(p>0.05),the two groups were comparable.(2)After 12 weeks of intervention,FEV1/FVC% in treatment group was significantly improved(p<0.05),and the difference between two groups was not significant(p>0.05).(3)One year after enrollment, there was no significant difference between the two groups(p>0.05).5.(1)The five common TCM constitution types are summarized as follows: yang deficiency, yin and yang deficiency, yin deficiency,qi and yin deficiency and qi and yin deficiency combined with blood stasis.(2)Before treatment, there was no significant difference in FACT-L,TCM syndrome scores and lung function(p>0.05).(3)After 12 weeks of intervention, there were significant differences in PWB subscale,FWB subscale and FACT-L total score among different constitutions(p<0.05).(4)One year after enrollment, there was no significant difference in all outcome measures among different constitutions(p>0.05).Conclusion:1.Shao’s lung-protecting exercise combined with auricular point pressing can obviously improve both short-term and long-term physical health,Social/Family Well-Being,body function and overall quality of life of elderly patients after lung cancer surgery.2.Shao’s lung-protecting exercise combined with auricular point pressing can significantly improve the symptoms of shortness of breath, voice timidity, mental fatigue, pale or yellow complexion, dizziness, waist and knee soreness in elderly patients after lung cancer surgery, and the long-term curative effect is similar to the short-term curative effect.3.The improvement of Shao’s lung-protecting exercise combined with auricular point pressing on the quality of life of elderly patients after lung cancer surgery has nothing to do with the distribution of age, body mass index and tumor stage. After 12 weeks of intervention, there were differences in the five common constitutions of yang deficiency, yin deficiency, yin and yang deficiency,qi and yin deficiency and qi and yin deficiency combined with blood stasis, but there was no significant difference in the five common constitutions after one year of observation.
