ObjectiveTo investigate the current situation of elderly caregivers’ neglect, analyze the influencing factors of elderly caregivers’ neglect based on the potential category model, and explore the influencing factors of elderly caregivers’ neglect from micro, mesa and macro perspectives with the guidance of social-ecological system theory,to so as to provide multi-faceted guidance for the later intervention of elderly caregivers, and provide a basis for promoting and improving the quality of elderly care.MethodsIn this study,a cross-sectional approach was used to conduct a survey using convenience sampling to select elderly caregivers caring for the elderly in 19 elderly institutions in Shandong Province from January 2022 to September 2022.Self-designed general information questionnaire, short version of Chinese Big Five personality questionnaire, social support scale, family support scale, neglectful caregiving scale,Gallup workplace questionnaire and occupational commitment scale were used to conduct the survey.SPSS 24.0 and Mplus 8.3 software were used for statistical analysis.Statistical methods included descriptive analysis,one-way ANOVA,chi-square test, latent profile analysis, and multicategory logistic regression analysis.Results1.The results showed that the total neglect score was(72.67± 12.88),among the four dimensions, physical neglect dimension had the highest score of(4.23±0.86),followed by psychological neglect(4.18±0.87),economic neglect(4.06± 1.15),and medical neglect dimension had the lowest score(4.02±0.88).2.based on the results of the potential profile analysis, the neglect of elderly caregivers was divided into 3 categories:"medium risk group" with 36.9%,"high psycho-medical risk group" with 19.9%;"low risk group" with 43.5%.3.The results of the univariate analysis showed that the differences in the distribution of gender, age, monthly income, nature of the organization, whether they had an employment qualification, whether they attended training regularly, and the number of elderly people they cared for at the same time differed among the different categories of elderly caregivers, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).And there were no statistically significant differences in the distribution of marital status, education, and years of working in elderly care(P>0.05).4.The results of the multicategory logistic regression analysis showed that gender, monthly income, nature of the organization, whether they had an employment qualification, whether they regularly attended training, number of elderly people being cared for at the same time, social support, rigor, family support, professional commitment, and work environment were the factors influencing the different potential categories of elderly caregivers’ neglect(P<0.05).Conclusion1.The neglect scores of elderly caregivers in this study were in the middle level.2.There was group heterogeneity in the neglect of elderly caregivers, which could be divided into the "medium risk neglect" group,"high risk neglect" group, and "low risk neglect" group.3.Gender,monthly income, nature of the organization, whether they have employment qualification, whether they attend training regularly, number of elderly people they care for at the same time, social support, rigor, family support, professional commitment, and working environment are the differences between different potential categories of elderly caregivers’neglect, which can predict the potential categories of elderly caregivers’ neglect. |
