Objective:The study was designed to understand the current situation of coping styles of medical students and normal students, and to compare and analyze the similarities and differences of influencing factors of coping styles between the two groups from the aspects of demographic information and social psychological factors. The study will provide scientific basis for improving the positive coping style of medical students and normal students and maintain their physical and mental health. Methods:Random cluster sampling method was used to carry out field epidemiological investigation in China Medical University and Shenyang Normal University in 2018.Medical students of clinical major in China Medical University and normal students of normal major in Shenyang Normal University were selected as this research objects.A total of 1487 students(688 from China Medical University and 799 from Shenyang Normal University)were surveyed.1301 valid questionnaires were obtained(627 from China Medical University and 674 from Shenyang Normal University),with an effective response rate of 87.5%.The Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ)was used to evaluate the coping styles of the respondents.SPSS 26.0 and SAS 9.4 were used for statistical analysis.χ~2 test,t-test,one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation were used in monofactor analysis, and generalized linear model was used in multivariate analysis. Results:The positive coping style levels of medical students and normal students were1.95±0.40 and 2.16±0.39 respectively, both higher than the national norm of 1.78±0.52(P<0.001).In addition, the negative coping levels of the two groups were 1.08±0.45 and1.01±0.49 respectively, both lower than the national norm of 1.59±0.66(P<0.001).Besides,the positive coping level of medical students was lower than that of normal students(t=-9.570,P<0.001),and the level of negative coping level was higher than that of normal students(t=2.663,P=0.008).By analyze the interactive effects of professional factors and risk factors, the results showed that in positive coping style, professional factors and learning motivation had interactive effect(β=-0.524,P=0.003).Meanwhile,in the negative coping style, professional factor and belief in a just world had interactive effect(β=0.641,P=0.011).The results of generalized linear regression showed that the influencing factors of positive coping style among medical students were self-esteem(β=0.213,P<0.001),belief in a just world(β=0.205,P<0.001)and learning motivation(β=0.163,P<0.001).The influencing factors of negative coping style were depression symptoms(severe vs.none:β=0.284,P<0.001;mild vs.none:β=0.147,P<0.001;moderate vs.none:β=0.125,P=0.002),self-esteem(β=-0.190,P<0.001),and nation(Han nationality vs.minority:β=-0.095,P=0.011).In normal students, the influencing factors of positive coping style were learning motivation(β=0.279,P<0.001),belief in a just world(β=0.203,P<0.001)and self-esteem(β=0.154,P<0.001).And the influencing factors of negative coping style were depression symptoms(severe vs.none:β=0.304,P<0.001;moderate vs.none:β=0.204,P=0.002;mild vs.none:β=0.088,P=0.015),belief in a just world(β=-0.129,P=0.001)and self-esteem(β=-0.101,P=0.008).Conclusion:In this study, the level of positive coping style of medical students and normal students was higher than the national norm, while the level of negative coping style was lower than the national norm. Moreover, the positive coping level of medical students was higher than that of normal students, and the level of negative coping level was lower than that of normal students. There were also similarities and differences in the influencing factors of coping styles between medical students and normal students. The belief in a just world was the main factor influencing the positive coping style of the two groups, and depression was the biggest factor influencing the negative coping style. The most influential factor of positive coping style of medical students was self-esteem,while that of normal students was learning motivation.Among the demographic factors, nationality was the only influential factor of medical students’negative coping style.
