ObjectiveTo investigate the status of coping styles,psychological distress,benefit finding in hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and to analyze the relationship among coping styles,psychological distress and benefit finding,and to explore the mediating effect of psychological distress between coping styles and benefit finding.The reference is provided for clinical medical staff in taking appropriate measures to improve the benefit finding level of patients.MethodsFrom December 2020 to April 2021,242 hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)were selected from the endocrinology department of a Grade Ⅲ-A hospital in Jinan by convenient sampling method.The general data questionnaire,Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire(MCMQ),Diabetes Distress Scale(DDS)and Benefit Finding Scale(BFS)were used to investigate,SPSS 25.0 software and Process plug-in were used for statistical analysis of data.Results1.The score of confrontation dimension is 17.82±5.25,the score of avoidance dimension is 12.56±2.82,and the score of resignation dimension is 8.41 ±2.29.There were statistically significant differences in coping styles of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)patients in different residential status,marital status,education level,family per capita monthly income,medical payment methods and whether there are chronic complications of diabetes(P<0.05).2.The total score of psychological distress was 38.47± 13.57,among which,the distress related to living rules was 13.43±4.92,the distress related to emotional burden was 11.43±4.65,the distress related to doctors was 7.27±3.01,and the distress related to interpersonal relationship was 6.36±2.71.There was a significant difference in the psychological distress of the patients in terms of different residential status,education level,family per capita monthly income,time of illness and whether there are chronic complications of diabetes(P<0.05).3.The total score of benefit finding was 50.09±10.84,and the score of benefit finding showed significant difference in different marital status,education level,family per capita monthly income,medical payment methods and whether there are chronic complications of diabetes in patients with type 2 diabetes(P<0.05).4.Confrontation dimension was positively correlated with benefit finding(r=0.319,P<0.01);avoidance dimension,resignation dimension,and psychological distress were all negatively correlated with benefit finding(r=-0.326,r=-0.432,r=-0.430,P<0.01);confrontation dimension was negatively correlated with psychological distress(r=-0.236,P<0.01);avoidance dimension,resignation dimension were both positively correlated with psychological distress(r=0.336,r=0.377,P<0.01).5.Psychological distress has a partial mediating effect between the confrontation,avoidance and resignation the three coping styles and the benefit finding,and the mediating effect is significant.The mediating effect value is 27.82%,37.31%,27.23%,respectively.Conclusion1.The benefit finding of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were at a moderate level,most patients adopted the confrontation coping style,and the overall psychological distress of patients was at a moderate level.2.Among the sociodemographic and disease-related factors,the solitary patients had lower scores of confrontation coping and higher scores of resignation coping.The married patients had higher scores of confrontation coping but lower scores of resignation coping.The patients with higher education level had higher scores of confrontation coping and lower scores of resignation coping.Patients who had lower per capita monthly household income had higher scores of avoidance and resignation coping,lower scores of confrontation coping,and patients who didn’t have health insurance had higher scores of resignation coping and patients living with family had lower psychological distress scores.Patients who were less educated and had lower per capita monthly household income,shorter course of disease,and chronic complications of diabetes had higher psychological distress scores.Patients who were married and had higher per capita monthly househod income,health insurance,no chronic complications of diabetes had higher benefit finding scores.Patients who were less educated had lower benefit finding scores.3.There was a correlation between coping styles,psychological distress and benefit finding,and psychological distress has a partial mediating effect between coping styles and benefit finding.The mediating effects of psychological distress on confrontation coping,avoidance coping,resignation coping and benefit finding were 27.82%,37.31%,27.23,respectively.
