Objectives:The clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of solitary fibrous tumor of head and neck were summarized by reviewing the rare cases of solitary fibrous tumor in head and neck. Methods: Between 2005 and 2016,24 cases of head and neck solitary fibrous tumor from Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University pathological database were identified, the clinical data of patients were compiled for review. Results: 22 patients showed significant enhancement in preoperative CT or MRI examination.2 patients had imaging manifestations of bone erosion, the treatment for all patients included surgical resection and postoperative radiotherapy. All the patients post-operative pathology diagnoses were solitary fibrous tumor.During follow-up period of 3 to 60 months, the recurrence of 7 patients was reoperated again. Conclusion: Head and neck solitary fibroma is very rare, especially in malignant situations.Clinical diagnosis is difficult and unclear, and it is often necessary to rely on pathological and immunohistochemical results. In most cases, complete surgical excision is the only necessary treatment.Adjuvant radiotherapy may be beneficial. All patients need close clinical follow-up for several years.
