From December 6,2020 to March 6,2021,tweets from Chinese and English accounts by People's Daily are sampled,and tweets containing visual rhetoric are selected as research samples.This paper analyzes the rhetorical behavior of visual text in the sample,finds out the problems to be solved,and puts forward targeted strategies.In order to "People's Daily" can further adapt to the role of social media users,to achieve the promotion of communication power,influence.The article introduces the general situation of People's Daily based on Twitter external communication,and summarizes the content and expression of its tweets.From the 839 samples taken,the corresponding relationship between the picture and text collocation and the meaning transfer of the tweets is summed up.Detailed explanation of the research based on the theory —— visual rhetoric.According to the double meaning of visual rhetoric and sample analysis,not all visual texts have rhetorical effects.In the practice of visual rhetoric in People's Daily tweets,the generation of visual rhetoric strategies is embodied in the adaptation to rhetorical situations,the construction of rhetorical frames and the expression of visual materials.The adaptation of rhetorical situations is based on the communicator's understanding of the audience,purpose and context;the construction of rhetorical framework is that the communicator chooses the thinking path of visual text and different thinking constructs rhetorical strategies of different nature.In the tweets of People's Daily,it is embodied in positive thinking,concentrated thinking,divergent thinking,seeking common thinking and seeking different thinking.On the basis of both,visual materials show obvious emotional and aesthetic properties.The use of visual rhetoric strategy realizes the interpretation of Chinese culture and the construction of national image.It points out that the text of visual rhetoric has obvious weaknesses in content selection,audience attraction and topic creation.Therefore,we should try our best to avoid the risk of challenging ethics and morality in content selection;select the image form and image information with more cultural and emotional identity in attracting the audience;and give full play to the core function,extension function and additional function of the people's daily as Twitter users in creating topics,make use of its continuous social relations network in Twitter,coordinate the operation of its directly affiliated accounts and relationship accounts,and form the scope of discourse power representing China.
