Objective:To study the relationship between personality change and quality of life, family closeness and adaptability in epilepsy patients, and to explore other factors affecting personality change,so as to provide a reference basis for early prevention or detection of personality change in epilepsy patients, early intervention measures to improve the quality of life and build a good personality in epilepsy patients.Method:The study was divided into two groups, the healthy control group and the epilepsy group, and the epilepsy group was collected from epilepsy patients who attended the Department of Neurology at the First Hospital of Jilin University from October 2019 to December 2021.All patients completed the Chinese version of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ,adults),the Quality of Life Inventory for People with Epilepsy(QOIE-31),and the Chinese version of the Family Affinity and Adaptability Scale(FACESII).The clinical characteristics of the patients were also recorded, including different seizure types, different lesion sites, epileptogenic side, age of onset, duration of disease, medication application, etc. The relevant factors influencing personality were analyzed;the healthy control group was community volunteers whose age, gender and education level were matched with the epilepsy group. The EPQ Chinese version,t-test,F-test,chi-square test, correlation analysis and other statistical methods were used to analyze the personality of epilepsy patients.Result:(1)When comparing the scores of the epilepsy group with the normal group on the Eysenck Personality Inventory, the epilepsy group had statistically significant higher scores on the P,N,and L scales(P<0.05),and there was no statistical difference on the E scale(P>0.05).(2)In the epilepsy group,49 cases had per capita monthly family income less than or equal to 2000 yuan,133 cases had per capita monthly family income between2001 and 4000 yuan, and 24 cases had per capita monthly family income more than4000 yuan, and there was a statistically significant difference(P<0.05)in the scores of P and N scales, but no statistically significant difference(P>0.05)in the scores of E and L scales. In the epilepsy group, there were 75 cases with stable work and 131 cases without stable work, and the P scale scores were statistically significant(P<0.05),while the E,N,and L scale scores were not statistically different between the two groups.(3)In the epilepsy group, there were 103 patients treated with monotherapy,63 patients treated with 2 drugs, and 40 patients treated with 3 or more drugs, and there were statistically significant differences in the scores on the P scale(P<0.05)and no statistical differences in the scores on the E,N,and L scales when comparing the scores on the scales of different drug treatment groups.Among the patients treated with monotherapy,39 patients were given levetiracetam and 36 patients were treated with oxcarbazepine, and there was a statistical difference in the scores of P and N scales between the two groups(P<0.05),while there was no statistical difference in the scores of E and L scales.(4)In the epilepsy group, there were 58 cases with sleep disorders and 148 cases without sleep disorders. The comparison of the scores of the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05)for the E and N scale scores and not statistically significant(P>0.05)for the P and L scale scores.(5)There was no statistical difference in the comparison of P,E,N and L scale scores by sex, age, marital status, education, age of onset, duration of disease, different sites of lesions and epileptogenic side, different seizure types, presence or absence of family history of epilepsy, and presence or absence of history of persistent status epilepticus(P>0.05).(6)The total quality of life score of epilepsy patients was 55.12±7.59,and the total quality of life score was negatively correlated with the P scale score(r=-0.290,P<0.001),negatively correlated with the N scale score(r=-0.437,P<0.001),positively correlated with the L scale score(r=0.161,P<0.05),and not statistically different from the E scale score(P>0.05).(7)Family closeness score of epilepsy patients was 66.70±11.44,and family closeness score was negatively correlated with P scale score(r=-0.398,P<0.001),negatively correlated with N scale score(r=-0.338,P<0.001),positively correlated with E scale score(r=0.281,P<0.001),and positively correlated with L scale score(r=0.211,P<0.05);family adjustment score was 45.10±9.35,which was negatively correlated with P scale score(r=-0.367,P<0.001),negatively correlated with N scale score(r=-0.329,P<0.001),positively correlated with E scale score(r=0.299,P<0.001),and positively correlated with L scale score(r =0.160,P<0.05).Conclusion:(1)Patients with epilepsy are more likely to have personality changes compared to normal controls.(2)Patients with lower per capita monthly household income and more unstable jobs are more likely to have personality changes.(3)The application of anti-epileptic drugs has an effect on personality.(4)Patients with epilepsy with sleep disorders are prone to personality changes.(5)Personality was not significantly affected by gender, age, marital status, education, age of onset, duration of disease, site and side of epileptogenic focus, seizure type, family history of epilepsy, and presence of persistent status epilepticus.(6)The higher the quality of life of people with epilepsy, the lower the incidence of personality change.(7)Family closeness and adaptability of epilepsy patients can directly affect the personality change of epilepsy patients, and the better the family closeness and adaptability, the lower the incidence of personality change.
