| Objective: To explore the influence of deep brain stimulation on motor symptoms, quality of life and personality in patients with Parkinson’s disease and the relationship between personality and quality of life. Methods: 1.Patients who were admitted to the Department of Neurology of our hospital from May 2018 to June 2020,diagnosed clinically PD and/or clinically probable PD according to the MDS clinical criteria for Parkinson’s disease. Then patients were assessed by specialist physicians and met the indications of DBS surgery for Parkinson’s disease.General data were collected: age, gender, course of disease,MMSE,MOCA,BAI,BDI,pre-and postoperative scores of MDS-UPDRSIII,Levodopa Equivalent Doses and PDQ-8.2.Changes between preoperative and postoperative were evaluated about motor symptoms, quality of life and LED.3.Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-R Short Scale(EPQ-RSC)was used to evaluate the personality of the patients 1 one week before(preoperative)and 6 months after(postoperative)the DBS surgery.(1)To study the changes of dimensions of personality of neuroticism, extroversion and psychoticism pre-and postoperative.(2)To describe the traits of personality of patients pre-and postoperative based on the scores of extroversion and neuroticism, and to explore the relationship between changes of personality and quality of life.Results:(1)In 50 PD patients undergoing STN-DBS surgery, the scores of MDS-UPDRSIII(Off-stage)decreased significantly(p<0.05),the motor symptoms improved and the LED decreased significantly.(p<0.05).According to the evaluation of PDQ-8,the quality of life of postoperative patients improved(p<0.05).(2)EPQ-RSC score showed that Extroversion scores increased significantly after DBS operation, while Lie score decreased significantly(p<0.05),which indicated that the questionnaires answer was more authentic, personality became more extroverted and willing to communicate with others, but there was no significant difference in Psychoticism and Neuroticism scores pre-and post operation.(3)Among 50 patients,9 patients had different personalities after DBS surgery, among which 4 patients changed from melancholic personality to viscous personality,2 from viscous personality to sanguine personality,2from viscous personality to melancholic personality and 1 from melancholic personality to choleric personality.Logistic regression was used to screen variables, and it was found that personality change was related to the improvement of quality of life.(OR=0.422p=0.029 < 0.05).Conclusion: After DBS surgery, the personality of PD patients in our center has changed to some extent, with a change rate of 18%,which is mainly reflected in the extroversion of personality characteristics. The study found that the change of personality is related to the improvement of quality of life. |
