ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to investigate the current situation of social support, sense of coherence and sleep quality of psychiatric nurses, and to analyze the relationship among the three variables. On this basis,we further examined whether sense of coherence played a mediating role between social support and sleep quality and explored the influencing factors of psychiatric nurses’ sleep quality in order to provide rationale for the intervention measures formulated to improve their sleep quality.Methods1.From July 2019 to January 2020,360 psychiatric nurses from two psychiatric hospitals in Jining,Shandong Province were selected by convenient sampling method.2.General information questionnaire, social support rating scale, sense of coherence(SOC-13)and Pittsburgh sleep quality index were used to collect the data of sociodemographic, social support, sense of coherence and sleep quality of psychiatric nurses;3.The descriptive analysis,ANOVA,Pearson correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis and structural equation model were conducted by SPSS22.0 and AMOS22.0.Results1.In this study, the total score of social support of psychiatric nurses was(39.50 ±8.55)and the average score of the three dimensions from high to low were: subjective support(5.61±1.26),objective support(3.12±1.24),utilization of support(2.57±0.64).2.The score of sense of coherence of psychiatric nurses was(58.76 ± 12.09)and the average score of the three dimensions from high to low were: sense of meaning(4.68±1.03),sense of control(4.51±1.20),comprehensibility(4.40±1.04).3.The total score of sleep quality index of psychiatric nurses was(8.50 ± 3.46),and the score of 7 dimensions from high to low were: daytime dysfunction(1.86±0.90),sleep latency(1.64±0.83),subjective sleep quality(1.57±0.73),sleep duration(1.28±0.68),sleep disorder(1.18±0.67),sleep efficiency(0.80±0.94)and sleep medicine(0.16±0.47).According to the PSQI score of 7,58.70% of psychiatric nurses had different degrees of sleep problems.4.The ANOVA analysis showed that there were significant differences in PSQI scores among age, professional title and night shift(P<0.05).Multiple regression analysis showed that age, professional title and night shift had significant effects on sleep quality of psychiatric nurses(P<0.05).5.Pearson correlation analysis showed that PSQI scores of psychiatric nurses were negatively correlated with social support and sense of coherence(r =-0.533,r =-0.416,P<0.01),and social support was positively correlated with sense of coherence(r = 0.597,P<0.01).6.Structural equation model analysis showed that: sense of coherence played a partial mediating role between social support and sleep quality of psychiatric nurses, and the estimated mediating effect was-0.222,accounting for 40.51% of the total effect.Conclusions1.Psychiatric nurses generally have sleep problems.Age,professional title and night shift are the influencing factors of psychiatric nurses’ sleep quality. Therefore, managers can take targeted measures and make reasonable staffing to improve the sleep quality of psychiatric nurses.2.The social support of psychiatric nurses is at the middle level, and the sense of coherence is at the low level. Both social support and sense of coherence can affect sleep quality, and sense of coherence plays a partial mediating role between social support and sleep quality. Therefore,we should strengthen psychiatric nurses’ social support and sense of coherence, which will improve their sleep quality.
