The Study On The Relationship Between Breast Cancer Patients’ Family Function, Social Support, Sense Of Coherence And Quality Of Life

Objective1. To investigate the level of sense of coherence and quality of life in breast cancer patients, and to explore the correlation between them. Identify the the correlation of the sense of coherence and quality of life of breast cancer patients, and find the intervention methods to provide the quality of life of the breast cancer patients.2. To investigate the status of the family functioning and social support in breast cancer patients, to analysis the correlation and influence factors of the family functioning, social support, sense of coherence and the quality of life of the breast cancer patients.MethodsWe evaluated patients diagnosed with breast cancer received chemotherapy by convenience sampling method between Janurary 2014 and Auguest 2014 at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital. Questionnaire survey was conducted by 748 patients, the questionnaires include general information form, sense of coherence scale SOC-13, family assessment device FAD, social support rating scale SSRS, quality of life scale QLQ-C30(V3.0). A general questionnaire designed by the investigators was administrated to evaluate the patients’ demographic characteristics and clincal data, including age, gender, education degree, family income, insurance, pathology classification, the clinical TNM stage, the operation methods and the history of chemotherapy. To evaluate the status of the sense of coherence, family functioning, social support, and quality of life by the SOC-13, FAD, SSRS, and QLQ-C30(V3.0). The data of the study were processed with SPSS17.0 for t-test, single factor analysis of variance, correlation analysis, regression analysis.ResultsThe total scores of the sense of coherence and quality of life were 51.14±6.99 and 79.30±14.14. There is a positive correlation between quality of life and sense of coherence( r=0.111, p<0.05). The scores of family functioning and the social support were 15.87±1.51 and 43.35±5.84. The sense of coherence and the family functioning is sifnificantly positive correlated(r=0.133, p<0.05). The sense of coherence and the social support is sifnificantly positive correlated( r=0.135, p<0.05). The family functioning and social support have direct effect on their quality of life of the breast cancer patients, the tatio of interpretation were 3.2% and 5.6%( p<0.01). The breast cancer patients’ family functioning and social support together as independents have intermediary effect on their quality of life with the sense of coherence as a intermediary variable.ConclusionSense of coherence predicted quality of life,while breast cancer patients’ sense of coherence was low. It is suggested to give patients more social support and strengthen their confidence of returning to society, in order to improve their quality of life.The level of quality of life, sense of coherence,social support and family functioning are lower, some of the patients’ demographic characteristics and clincal datas have effects on the sense of coherence and their qulity of life. There have correlationship among the family functioning, social support, sense of coherence and the quality of life. The sense of coherence plays a intermediary role between family functioning, social support and the quality of life in the breast cancer patients. It is suggested to give patients more social support and strengthen their confidence of returning to the society, in order to improve their quality of life.
