Purpose: To observe the effect of intravitreal injection of anti vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in the treatment of macular edema(ME)secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)and its influence on the thickness of retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL).Method: From December 2019 to December 2020,28 patients with ME secondary to BRVO who met the criteria were treated with intravitreal injection of anti VEGF drugs at the eye center of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University were selected as the research objects, and the clinical data of them were retrospectively analyzed. All patients received intravitreal injection of 0.05 ml anti VEGF drug on the first treatment, and the number of injections was determined according to the treatment effect(1 + PRN).Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP),central retinal thickness(CRT),and the average thickness of RNFL in temporal, nasal, superior temporal, inferior temporal, superior nasal and inferior nasal quadrants were compared before and 3 months after treatment. Results: A total of 28 patients(28 eyes)were included. The average age of the patients was 59.07 ± 12.46 years old,and the average number of injections was 2.54±1.13.3months after intravitreal injection,BCVA increased from 0.1(0.08,0.2)to 0.4(0.25,0.2).There was no significant difference on IOP level before and after treatment(P=0.435).CRT decreased significantly at 1,2,3 months after injection compared with baseline(P=0.016).The baseline of CRT was 334.97 ± 36.68 μ m.After 3 months, the CRT value was 152.54 ± 69.87 μ m.There was no significant difference in the average thickness of RNFL in each quadrant before and after 3 months treatment(P > 0.05).Conclusion: Intravitreal injection of anti VEGF drugs can significantly improve visual acuity and reduce macular edema in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion. However, large sample size and long-term follow-up study are still needed. |
