OBJECTIVE: To investigate the safety of lactulose oral solution combined with compound polyethylene glycol electrolyte in preoperative bowel preparation of colorectal cancer and the satisfaction of patients.METHODS: Clinical data of 391 patients who received elective radical surgery for colorectal cancer in Weizhengqiang Medical Group of Gastrointestinal Surgery Department of Chongqing Medical University between September 1,2018 and September 1,2020 were retrospectively collected.Among them,233 were males and 158 were females. In the experimental group,199 patients were treated with lactilose oral solution combined with compound polyethylene glycol as preoperative intestinal preparation for colorectal cancer.Among them,122 were males and 77 were females;191 patients in the control group were treated with compound polyethylene glycol alone as preoperative intestinal preparation.Among them,111 were males and 81 were females.Outcome measures: 1)The basic medical records of patients in the two groups were summarized;2)Preoperative intestinal preparation and adverse reactions;3)Intraoperative intestinal preparation and satisfaction of surgeons;4)Perioperative complications and nutritional status of patients in the two groups.SPSS 25.0 software was used for statistical analysis.Quantitative data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation(SD),and independent sample t test was used for comparison.Categorical data were expressed as absolute value and percentage, and were compared using chi-square test or rank sum test. All tests were double-sided,and P <0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS: 1)Patients’ basic information: there was no statistical significance in age, gender,BMI,hypertension, diabetes, history of abdominal surgery, tumor location, stomy rate, preoperative intestinal obstruction and other basic information between the experimental group and the control group(P > 0.005);2)In the experimental group, nausea, total clinical discomfort and preoperative enema after oral laxatives were statistically significant(P<0.005),while vomiting, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, electrolyte disturbance(hypokalemia, hypochloremia, hyponatremia)and emergency operation rate were not statistically significant(P>0.005).3)The surgical situation between the two groups:there was no statistical significance in the conversion rate, degree of intestinal cleanliness, degree of intestinal dilatation, intraoperative blood loss and operative time(P>0.005);4)The time of first postoperative exhaust and defecation, postoperative hospital stay, postoperative complications(abdominal infection, incision infection, anastomotic leakage, postoperative intestinal obstruction rate)were not statistically significant between the two groups(P>0.005).5)The satisfaction of the experimental group was much higher than that of the control group(P<0.005).Conclusion: Lactulose oral solution combined with compound polyethylene glycol for intestinal preparation does not increase operation-related complications, but improves patient satisfaction. Therefore, lactilose combined with polyethylene glycol may replace conventional bowel preparation as a safe and more satisfactory method of bowel preparation. It is expected to be promoted nationwide and become a transitional bowel preparation without mechanical bowel preparation.
