Background:As the cognitive and behavioral measures taken by fathers in the face of preterm infant events, coping style not only affects the clinical treatment of preterm infants,doctor-patient relationship, but also affect their psychological health, couples and parentchild relationship, etc, which should be paid attention to by medical workers.Assessing the status of paternal coping styles at birth and admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, discharge, and one month after discharge, identifying influencing factors,is critical for intervention and care during admission and for continuing care after discharge. At present, existing cross-sectional studies often describe the coping style of fathers of preterm infants at a single time point, and longitudinal follow-up studies are lacking. Therefore,it is necessary to adopt longitudinal design method to investigate the current situation and influencing factors of coping styles of fathers of premature infants,in order to provide theoretical support for clinical intervention of coping styles of fathers of premature.Objective:1.Describe the current situation and changing trend of coping styles of fathers of preterm infants;2.To explore the influencing factors of fathers’ coping styles of hospitalized preterm infants. Methods:A longitudinal study design was used to facilitate the selection of 129 fathers of preterm infants diagnosed in Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital and admitted to the NICU from December 2019 to January 2021.The fathers of preterm infants fill out the general information questionnaire,Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire,The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale,Anxiety Self-assessment Scale,Perceived Social Support Scale at the time of admission, discharge and one month after discharge to investigate the current situation and influencing factors of the coping style of the fathers of premature infants. Results:The average score of positive coping dimension of fathers of premature infants in NICU was higher than that of negative coping. The scores of three time nodes in the positive coping dimension were 22.37±6.70,24.26±5.97 and 23.76±5.83,respectively,and the average scores in the three dimensions were 1.86±0.56,2.02±0.50 and 1.98±0.49,respectively.The scores of three time nodes of negative coping dimension were 7.07±4.13,8.56 ±4.68 and 7.81 ±4.36,and the average scores of negative coping dimension were 0.88±0.52,1.07±0.58 and 0.97±0.54.The scores were firstly increased and then decreased, and there was statistical significance in the scores of positive coping and negative coping at three time points(P<0.05).The results of one-way ANOVA showed that at the three time nodes, there were significant differences in the scores of father’s education,is it the only child, belief, number of births, friend support, family support, other support and anxiety in the positive coping dimension(P<0.05);There were statistically significant differences in the scores of fathers’ health status,is it the only child, preterm experience, postpartum depression and anxiety in the dimension of negative coping(P<0.05).The results of the generalized linear mixed model show that influencing factors of positive coping dimension were marriage age, belief, number of births, support from friends and family. The influencing factors of negative coping dimension were preterm infant experience, anxiety and postpartum depression. Conclusions:The father’s coping style of premature infants was positive, and the score increased first and then decreased with time. The average score of positive coping style of three time nodes was higher than that of negative coping style. The age of marriage, belief, number of births, experience of premature infants in family, friends’ support, family support, postpartum depression and anxiety of the father of preterm infants have different degrees of influence on coping style. It is suggested that the medical staff should choose the appropriate entry point on the basis of this study and take family centered intervention strategies to help the father of preterm infants improve their coping ability.
