Clinical Observation On The Therapeutic Effect Of Xanthium Powder Fumigation Treatment On Nasal Ventilation Of Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is a common disease in otorhinolaryngology department.It is mainly manifested by paroxysmal nasal itching,frequent sneezing,a large amount of watery mucus,and nasal congestion.It belongs to the category of "Bi Qiu"in Chinese medicine.In traditional Chinese medicine,treatment usually starts with the lungs,spleen,and kidneys,and treat based on syndrome differentiation.Among them,deficiency and cold of lung-qi is the main pathogenesis.ObjectiveIn this study,we observed the clinical study of using Xanthium powder fumigation to treat lung-qi deficiency and cold type allergic rhinitis stasis by scoring their symptoms,signs scores,nasal resistance and reflex measurement changes before and after treatment to evaluate the curative effect of this therapy in improving nasal ventilation function.In addition,we make an evaluation of its safety.And we lay the foundation for the better application and promotion of traditional Chinese medicine fumigation therapy about allergic rhinitis.MethodsThe subjects of this subject were selected from 70 patients with allergic rhinitis of lung-qi deficiency and cold type who were treated in the outpatient and inpatient departments of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of traditional Chinese Medicine,from August 2020 to February 2021.They were randomly divided into a control group and a test group,each group had 35 cases.The control group used syndrome differentiation Chinese medicine decoction(Wenfei Zhiliudan plus or minus),the Chinese medicine decoction was turned and decocted,one dose per day,two divided doses.The test group used TCM decoction(Wenfei Zhiliudan plus or minus).At the same time,they used traditional Chinese medicine fumigation(Xanthium powder:Bai Zhi 5.5g,XinYi 2.5g,CangErZi 1.5g,BoHe 0.5g,the four flavors are grounded into fine powder and add into non-woven packaging bag,put the medicine bag in small caliber container.Add hot water at 100℃ to 5cm soaked in the medicine bag,15cm from the face,steam fumigation of the nasal cavity),once a day,15 minutes each time,the total course of treatment is 7 days.Collected the basic case data of patients,and perform symptoms(nasal symptoms(nasal congestion,nasal itching,sneezing,runny nose),ocular symptoms(eye itching/foreign body sensation/redness,tearing))scores,signs scores,and nasal resistance and nasal reflection measurement before and after treatment.And then we established the clinical database and use t test,chi-square test,rank sum test for statistical analysis to evaluate the treatment effect by the SPSS22.0 software to process the obtained data.ResultsA total of 70 patients with allergic rhinitis of lung-qi deficiency and cold type were included in this study.By statistical,there were no statistical difference between the two groups in terms of gender,age,height,weight,disease course,subjective symptoms,physical sign scores,objective nasal resistance,nasal reflex measurement before treatment(P>0.05),data were balanced and comparable.About the nasal symptom scores,the comparison between the Xanthium powder fumigation group and the pure Chinese medicine oral group before and after the treatment was statistically significant(P<0.05),and the comparison between the two groups after treatment was statistically significant(P<0.05).It can be considered that there is a difference between them,and the treatment effect of the Xanthium powder fumigation group is better than the pure Chinese medicine oral group.The comparison of the nasal resistance values(75pa,150pa)before and after self-treatment in the Xanthium powde fumigation group and the pure Chinese medicine oral group was statistically significant(P<0.05),and the nasal resistance values were significantly lower after treatment,but the difference between the two groups after treatment was not statistically significant(P>0.05).And there were no adverse reactions in the two groups during the study.ConclusionXanthium powder fumigation can significantly improve the subjective symptoms of nasal congestion,sneezing,runny nose,and nasal itching and symptoms and signs overall scores in patients with allergic rhinitis of deficiency and cold of lung-qi.But there is no significant improvement in nasal resistance and reflex,which need further discussion.The fumigation of traditional Chinese medicine Xanthium powder has certain clinical application value for the treatment of allergic rhinitis,but the evaluation of the curative effect should be combined with subjective symptom scores,for example nasal resistance and reflex and other objective data comprehensive evaluation.
