Objective: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of biological mesh in patients with inguinal hernia after surgery. Methods : analysis was performed on 40 patients who underwent inguinal hernia surgery in the Second Affiliated Hospitalof Hebei Medical University from December 2019 to December 2020,all of whom underwent Lichtenstein tension-free repair.According to different intraoperative mesh materials, they could be divided into experimental group and control group. In the experimental group,a total of 20 cases were treated with biological patch. In the control group,20 cases were treated with self-fixation mesh. The operative time, postoperative recovery and discharge time, early postoperative pain, wound infection and seroma, scrotal hematoma, postoperative chronic pain, testicular atrophy, postoperative recurrence and other indexes of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results: All patients in the group successfully completed the operation, and there was no significant difference in age between the two groups(P>0.05).The operative time of the experimental group was longer than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant according to the analysis(P<0.05),but there was no statistically significant difference in the postoperative recovery time and the length of hospital stay.In terms of early postoperative pain, analogue score of pain in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group on the first and third day after surgery, but the difference was not statistically significant. The patients in the two groups were followed up for 6 to 12 months, and no serious complications such as infection, poor wound healing, postoperative recurrence, testicular atrophy were found in the two groups. In terms of seroma, postoperative chronic pain and foreign body sensation, the incidence of biological mesh in seroma was higher than that of synthetic part, and the incidence of foreign body sensation and postoperative chronic pain was lower than that of synthetic part. There was no statistical significance in the differences(P>0.05).There was no statistically significant difference between the two types of mesh in terms of the absence of obvious complications(P<0.05).Conclusions: The use of biological mesh in tension-free repair of inguinal hernia in adults is safe and effective, and the complication rate is not significantly different from that of self-impregnated synthetic mesh.
