| Objective The efficacy of surgical excision combined with 90Sr isotope treatment for keloids was well documented. However, radiation dermatitis, erythema, pigmentation and other adverse effects occurred in the skin after 90Sr isotope treatment. This study is to investigate the clinical application effect of MEBO in the prevention of radiation dermatitis and related adverse reactions after surgical excision of keloid combined with90Sr isotope radiotherapy. Methods From January 2019 to June 2020,81 patients(101 keloids)were treated in the Medical Aesthetic Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. They were randomly divided into a treatment group(40 patients with 48 sites)and a control group(41patients with 53 sites).Surgical excision of keloids was performed in all patients. In the treatment group,MEBO was applied on the irradiated area of skin after using 90Sr isotope radiotherapy, and no measures were taken in the control group after using 90Sr.The healing time of incisions, the intensity of acute dermatitis, pain and pruritus, the severity of pigmentation and postoperative Vancouver Scar Scale were evaluated in both groups. All calculations were made using SPSS 20.0.Results No significant differences were found in basic characteristics between the two groups before treatment. After surgical excision of keloids, there was no significant difference in the healing duration of incisions between treatment and control groups(Z=-1.598,P=0.110)while no incision infection occurred in either group. Two weeks after the last 90Sr isotope radiotherapy, the grades of radioactive damage, pain degree, pruritus and pigmentation severity of skins on both sides of incision line in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group(Z=-2.135、-2.721、-2.435、-3.222,P=0.033、0.007、0.015、0.001).However,there was no significant difference in the VSS scores between the two groups(Z=-1.475,P=0.140).Conclusions MEBO can reduce the grades of acute radioactive dermatitis, relieve the symptoms of pain and pruritus, reduce pigmentation severity which caused by 90Sr isotope radiotherapy after keloid excision. This study may provide more clinical evidence for MEBO to reduce the occurrence of cutaneous adverse effects after radiotherapy. |
