| Sarcopenia is a progressive decline in muscle mass, strength, and function with age, associated with an increased risk of dyskinesia, falls, fractures, disabilities, and death.[1]Currently,sarcopenia is considered as an age-related disease, and many studies have confirmed its association with other chronic diseases, such as diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),tumors, heart failure, etc. In these diseases, sarcopenia is usually a predictor of poor survival. Therefore, understanding the interconnections between sarcopenia and these chronic diseases, and early identification and intervention, can help clinicians break the vicious circle between each other and prevent or delay the occurrence of disability and adverse events in the elderly. This review describes the correlation between sarcopenia and several common chronic diseases and their research progress. |
