Objective:To explore the pathogenic characteristics and related factors of carpal tunnel syndrome in our hospital. Methods:The clinical data of 545 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome who underwent surgery in our hospital from January 2013 to December 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The related factors such as sex,age of onset, course of disease, body mass index(BMI),occupation and previous disease history were investigated, and the pathogenic characteristics and related factors of carpal tunnel syndrome were summarized. Results:In the past 8 years, the annual number of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome in our hospital showed an overall upward trend, including more women than men(4.4:1),heavy manual workers accounted for 55.4%(302 cases),41~60 years old accounted for 67.9%(370cases),the course of disease within 3 years accounted for 72.8%(397 cases),the average of Body Mass Index(BMI)was 25.3kg/m~2,bilateral patients accounted for 56.3%(307 cases),Severe patients accounted for 63.7%(347 cases). The results of inferential statistical analysis showed that the course of disease in females was longer than that in males(P<0.05),and the proportion of heavy manual workers in males was higher than that in females(P<0.05);there was no significant difference in the incidence of diabetes and BMI between the two groups(P>0.05).Compared with the moderate group, the severe group had more women and longer course of disease, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);there was no significant difference in BMI between the two groups(P>0.05).Compared with the unilateral group, the bilateral group had more women, longer course of disease and more patients with diabetes, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);there was no significant difference in the age of onset and BMI between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:1.The high incidence age of carpal tunnel syndrome is 41-60 years old.2.Carpal tunnel syndrome is common in women, and the sex ratio is 4.4:1.The pathogenesis of carpal tunnel syndrome may be different between male and female.3.Females and longer course of disease were more prevalent in patients with severe carpal tunnel syndrome.Females, longer course of disease and diabetes mellitus were more prevalent in patients with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome.
