Team creativity has always been the focus in academia and the business community,long-term competitive advantage is built on sustainable innovation which depends on the whole team creativity.Among the study of predecessor variables that influence team creativity,team heterogeneity has been regarded as one of the most important variables that affect team creativity.The relationship between team differentiation and team creativity varies on the specific dimensions.The existing research focuses on the heterogeneity of team members' demographic characteristics,expertise,values,and so on.However,due to the existence of hierarchical status,each team member is located in a certain level of status.However,due to the existence of hierarchical status,there are formal status difference among team member.However,there has been no focus on the relationship between formal status differentiation and team creativity.Different from the traditional dimensions,status is rare and zero-sum.Therefore,it is crucial to investigate the relationship between status differentiation and team output,especially team creativity.This paper will introduce COR theory into the research of team heterogeneity for the first time.Based on the high competitive characteristics of status resources,we investigation the relationship between status differentiation and team creativity from the perspective of individual's status competition motivation.A data analysis from the sample of 84 team in shows that:(1)There is an inverted U-shape relationship between formal status differentiation and team creativity;(2)team interpersonal psychological safety played as a mediated role between them;(3)Status-Attainment Mechanism moderated the relationship between formal status differentiation and team interpersonal psychological safety.At the end of this article,we summarized and discussed the theory contribution,research limitations and future direction.
