Recent years, teams have replaced individuals as the basic units for task execution. They have been widely used in various organizations and have now become the cornerstone of modern organizations. How to improve team effectiveness is an important issue in management theory and practice. In this research field, past scholars have mainly adopted an inward-looking perspective to examine the influence of team structure, team leadership, and team processes on team effectiveness. However,as the team becomes more closely linked with its external environment, traditional inward-looking perspectives have limitations in explaining team effectiveness. Some scholars have found that although many teams are committed to optimizing their structure and processes, they are still not effective due to the lack of external attention. Some scholars also suggested that we should pay full attention to the outward-looking perspective of the research on team issues.Based on this, this article will study team effectiveness from an external perspective. An important variable for research from an external perspective is team cross-border activities.Team cross-border activities refer to the process in which a team interacts with external parties(such as customers, suppliers, shareholders, and other teams)in order to achieve the desired goals and obtain key information and resources.Studies have shown that team cross-border activities have a positive predictive effect on team effectiveness. However, the research on the impact mechanism of team cross-border activities on team effectiveness is far from enough. It is necessary to further explore the mechanism of team cross-border activities affecting team effectiveness.Based on the meaning construction theory, this study attempts to explore the mediating role of the shared mental model between the team's cross-border activities and team effectiveness and the moderating role of public opinion leaders on the relationship between team cross-border activities and shared mental models. This paper takes the team as the research object, and obtains 67 research samplesfrom Beijing,Shanghai,Guangdong,Shanxi and other places through questionnaire survey. The data is analyzed by SPSS17.0 and AMOS17.0 software, and the following conclusions are drawn: First, the team Cross-border activities have a positive impact on team effectiveness.Second, team cross-border activities have a positive impact on shared mental models.Third, shared mental models play an intermediary role between team cross-border activities and team effectiveness.Public opinion leaders play a negative role in regulating the relationship between team cross-border activities and shared mental models. When the public opinion leadership level is higher, the relationship between the two is weaker;on the contrary, the stronger it is.This research verifies the positive effect of team cross-border activities on team effectiveness in the context of China, and on this basis, tests the mediating role of the shared mental model in team cross-border activities and team effectiveness and public opinion leadership on the team. The adjustment of the relationship between cross-border activities and shared mental models has enriched the research on the team's cross-border activities' impact on team effectiveness, and provided some inspiration for the team to carry out effective cross-border activities and improve team effectiveness.
