With the rapid evolution of media technology,especially the rise and in-depth development of electronic media technology,information transmission is no longer limited by time and region,and the global information interaction and communication speed is faster and the scope is wider.Among them,television,as the mainstream media in contemporary society,plays a multi-dimensional role in information transmission,cultural entertainment and educational services.Relying on the function of TV media,mass cognitive activities and communication activities have achieved a qualitative leap.Derrick de Kerckhove is a famous communication scholar in Canada,the representative of the third generation of The Toronto School of Communication after Harold Innis and Marshall McLuhan,and the leader of The Toronto School with contemporary.Derrick de Kerckhove developed The Toronto School's academic tradition of exploring the development of civilization from the perspective of media technology,and took television media as one of the research focuses.In the television study,Derrick de Kerckhove introduction of humanities and social science such as psychology,sociology,political science and physiology of natural science related concepts to interpret the influence of television,television from two aspects of theory and practice of media shape the role of social,cultural and other fields,and on the basis of the theory of Marshall McLuhan media to further explore the television media is how to extend the function of people and the nervous system,and influence the development of the human culture.He examines the integration and development of media from a dialectical historical perspective and explores the profound influence of television on human beings and the development of civilization by combining theories of various related disciplines.This not only expands the research vein of The Toronto School,but also promotes the media theory that the contemporary media ecology research develops continuously and deeply.
