Research On The Evaluation Of Academic Papers Influence Based On Social Network

Academic papers play an important role in the whole process of scientific research and the development of science and technology.It is not only an important carrier of academic exchanges and knowledge sharing,but also the basis for scientific evaluation at different levels(such as evaluation of talents ? institutions ? and achievements,etc.).Therefore,to evaluate the value of the academic papers in a reasonable way is necessary.Traditionally,the evaluation of a paper is often based on its citation frequency and the journal's impact factor.However,the citation evaluation has a longer time lag and the citation has other defects such as the Matthew Effect.Besides,it is not persuasive enough to evaluate a paper by using journal influence factor.With the rapid development of social networks,all kinds of online document sharing,evaluation models and academic communities have emerged and the academic exchange models have also shifted from offline to online.In the age of social networking,the online influence of the paper is prominent.In some cases,the online influence of academic papers is more important than its offline influence and the traditional method of evaluating journal papers is not enough when evaluating the online influence of academic papers.Therefore,other new academic evaluation methods must be explored actively.In recent years,the exploration to Altmetrics and its application in the evaluation of academic papers have provided new research ideas for the evaluation of influence of academic papers based on social network.This article first gives an overview of Altmetrics and discusses the advantages and feasibility of the evaluation of academic papers influence based on Altmetrics.Then it selects evaluation indicators of the influence of academic papers based on social networks.The first-level indicators are social network dissemination indicator,readership indicator and the news media reference indicator.The secondary indicators include Mendeley readers?News stories?Tweets?Facebook posts?Blog posts? Google+ posts?Wikipedia pages and Reddit posts.Then the correlation analysis and principal component analysis are used to filter the indicators of each dimension.Besides,the weight of each index is calculated and an evaluation index system for the influence of academic papers based on social network is constructed.Through empirical research,the evaluation results of the influence of social network-based and citation-based academic papers are compared.A conclusion can be drawn that there is some consistency and difference between them and the evaluation of influence of academic papers based on social networks is a useful supplement to the evaluation of citation-based academic papers influence.
