On The Application Of Technology And The Differentiation Of Peasantry

Internet technology is a modern product representing the progress of science and technology and has become an indispensable tool in our daily life.In recent years,peasantry in some rural areas of China use Internet technology to open online stores,sell agricultural products through e-commerce platforms,promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries,and increase household economic income through multiple channels.Society and academia call these villages "Taobao Village",which is an economic and social phenomenon with Chinese characteristics.The phenomenon of"Taobao Village" has attracted the attention of the academic circles,but from the current published academic literature,there are few academic documents on the study of "Taobao Village" from the perspective of sociology,and fewer on the peasantry in the "Taobao Village".This study selected "Taobao Village" of X Town as a case study,mainly using qualitative research methods,through interviews and participatory observation method to collect raw data.Based on Durkheim's theory of social division of labor and Weber's theory of wealth,power and prestige,this paper studies the differentiation of peasantry.The main contents of this paper are as below:First of all,the exploration of the application and development of Internet technology in traditional rural society is mainly divided into budding stage,diffusion stage and normative stage.In their budding stage,a small number of net-contact "guides" gained the dividends of Internet technology as they groped;in the diffusion phase,many people in rural societies with acquaintances mimicked these "guides".Internet technology spread rapidly in a short period of time,but many problems appeared in the process of diffusion.At the normative stage,local governments stepped in to take a series of measures to gradually solve the problems existing in the development of Internet technology.Second,in the process of application and development of Internet technology in rural areas,the peasantry who are directly and indirectly related to it begin to differentiate gradually,and the peasantry have occupational differentiation in the horizontal direction,mainly three kinds of occupations:e-commerce,suppliers and employees.In the vertical direction,economic differentiation and social status differentiation gradually occurred.According to their economic income,peasantry are mainly divided into the rich,the rich,the middle and the low-income;while the social status of peasantry is divided mainly from the two aspects of political power and social prestige.Thirdly,through research,it is found that there are three main reasons leading to the differentiation of peasantry:technology,social relations and economic resources.Finally,the application of Internet technology in rural areas reconstructs the peasantry' production and life style,and the peasantry are divided in the process of "invading" and "transforming" the rural areas with the Internet technology.In addition to bringing positive influence to the traditional rural society,the differentiation of peasantry in Internet technology inevitably has negative consequences,which is worth further thinking and discussion.
