Objection:The frequency of meat intake of hospitalized patients with rheumatoid arthritis is investigated to study whether fish, red meat including pork, beef and mutton and white meat including poultry intake are associated with disease activity, then providing theoretical basis for dietary intervention for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.Methods:130 patients with rheumatoid arthritis in the department of rheumatology and immunology,Minda Hospital of Hubei Minzu University from December 2018 to December 2019 were enrolled.Frequency of meat intake was assessed by a baseline food frequency questionnaire assessing usual diet in the past year.Clinical data including ESR,CRP,anti-CCP antibody,RF and DAS28-ESR were collected.Associations between red meat, fish and white meat intake and ESR,CRP,anti-CCP antibody,RF and DAS28-ESR were evaluated.Result:1.The frequency of fish intake negatively correlated with DAS28-ESR score(r_s=-0.384,P=0.000)and ESR(r_s=-0.263,P=0.003),but had no association with CRP,anti-CCP antibody and RF in RA patients(P>0.05).Then fish intake was categorized in three groups:never to<1 time/month,1 time/month to<1time/week,≥1 time/week.There were statistically significant differences in DAS28-ESR(P=0.000)and ESR(P=0.011),and no statistically significant differences in CRP,anti-CCP antibody and RF(P>0.05)among the three groups.2.After adjusting for age, sex, education, smoking, body mass index(BMI),red meat and white meat intake, the frequency of fish intake still negatively correlated with DAS28-ESR score(β=-0.748,95%CI-0.454,-1.042)and ESR(β=-8.603,95%CI1.948,-15.258).3.According to whether red meat was consumed daily or not, there was a statistically significant difference in anti-CCP antibody(P=0.012),but no statistically significant differences in DAS28-ESR score,ESR,CRP and RF(P>0.05)between the two groups.4.After adjusting for confounding factors, ret meat intake positively correlated with anti-CCP antibody(β=38.273,95%CI 15.434,61.112).5.The frequency of white meat intake had no association with DAS28-ESR,ESR,CRP,anti-CCP antibody and RF in RA patients(P>0.05).Conclusion:Our findings suggest that higher intake of fish in RA patients may reduce DAS28-ESR score and ESR.Daily intake of red meat may increse anti-CCP antibody concentration.White meat intake in RA patients may have no association with disease activity.
