| Objectiv The study aim to explore prognostic factors of small cell carcinoma of the esophagus(SCCE)and investigate the association of pretreatment neutrophil lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and platelet lymphocyte ratio(PLR)with the prognosis of patients with SCCE.Methods We retrospectively reviewed the records of 52 patients from multiple centers with SCCE between January 2004 and June 2016.The clinical and pathological data were retrospectively analyzed.SPSS 16.0 software was used to determine the median value of NLR and PLR.The patients were defined as high NLR group when NLR≥3.1,low NLR group when NLR<3.1,high PLR group when PLR≥135.8,low PLR group when PLR<135.8 according to the median value.Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate the survival rate, and the Log-rank test was used to compare the survival rates between the high and low NLR group and the PLR group. Results 24 patients with high NLR demonstrated poor overall survival time compared to 28 patients with low NLR(8.3 vs.17.3 months,P < 0.05).Meanwhile 26 patients with high PLR demonstrated poor overall survival time compared to 26 patients with high PLR(8.2 vs.16.3 months,P < 0.05).Age≥ 60 years, extensive stage, tumor located in the upper esophagus, not received chemotherapy, not received radiotherapy,NLR ≥ 3.1,PLR ≥135.8 significantly correlated with poor OS on univariate analysis.Multivariate analysis showed that age, stage, radiotherapy, and NLR were independent prognostic factors. Conclusions 1.Age,stage,radiotherapy were independent prognostic factors;High NLR and PLR demonstrated poor overall survival time and NLR was an independent poor predictor of small cell carcinoma of the esophagus. |
