BackgroundThe mental health problems of medical imaging interns during the clinical internship are complex and changeable. At present, there are few comprehensive studies on the mental health and stressors of the imaging interns in ChinaPurposeThe study was carried out based on the questionnaire survey of stress professional and mental health status from medical imaging interns in different internship stages. The study helps to understand the changes of stressors and mental health status of interns in different internship stages as well as their correlation,so as to provide a reference for improving the stressors and mental health status of interns.MethodsBy using the questionnaire survey method,180 medical imaging interns from the second-grade and above hospitals were investigated separately in Bengbu City from December 2015 to August 2016,and the enrolled medical imaging interns were in the pre-internship(TO),early internship(T1),internship(T2)and post-internship(T3).The general situation questionnaire was used to investigate the basic situation of the respondents;the pressure source scale was used to detect the stress status of the interns;and the symptom self-rating scale(SCL-90)was used to detect the mental health status of the interns.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0.Results(1)The stressors of the medical imaging interns during the internship period have generated different degrees of pressures from different aspects;the stressors of imaging interns owns significant differences in the different internship stages(P<0.01),and as the internship time goes on,there is a downward trend, and their rankings are different in different internship stages;(2)The influencing factors of stressors in different internship stages are mainly gender and personality characteristics, and the male and extroverted stressors are the protective factor of the pressure source;(3)Variance analysis on repeated measures of each factor from the mental health scale showed that, except for somatization and coercion(P>0.05),the remaining factors and the total score of SCL-90 exhibited a certain degree in different internship periods, and scores exhibited a downward trend(P value<0.05);(4)Stress sources in different internship stages have an impact on mental health, however, the impact factors are different in different periods. The results of regression analysis show that the teaching situation, computer room facilities, and patient condition stressors in the TO and T1 periods cause the psychological status of the imaging interns;in the T2 and T3 periods, teaching arrangements, computer room facilities, patient status and job cognition have an impact on interns’ psychology.ConclusionDuring the internship of medical imaging interns, the top six pressure sources caused moderate and above pressures. The top six stressors and orders changes in different internship periods. With the extension of internship time, the pressure of interns will gradually reduce;gender and personality characteristics are the main factors affecting the stressors of interns;the stressors of different internship periods during the internship can have an impact on the mental health of imaging professional interns.Strengthening image interns’ psychological counseling and intervention during school study, clinical apprenticeship and internship, getting familiar with the internship environment in advance, facing the pressure correctly may provide great help to relieve interns’ stress during the internship period, promote mental health, and reduce stressors.
