| Objective:To investigate the prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea among female nursing students in higher vocational colleges, and to explore the effect of sleep quality on primary dysmenorrhea by considering the confounding variables(age, diet, exercise, menarche age, depression, anxiety, etc.)Methods:Convenience sampling was used to recruit female nursing students in a higher vocational college and a questionnaire survey was conducted. The demographic and menstrual characteristics of the subjects were collected by general data questionnaire and menstrual status questionnaire. The anxiety, depression and sleep quality of the subjects were assessed by GAD-7,PHQ-9 and PSQI.SPSS21.0 was used to analyze the data.Logistic regression analysis were used to explore the effect of sleep quality on primary dysmenorrhea.Results:1.Current prevalence of dysmenorrhea:857 questionnaires were sent out and 843(98.4%)valid questionnaires were returned. The average age was 19.84±0.92.The number of dysmenorrhea participants was 578,and the prevalence of dysmenorrhea was 68.6%.2.Comparisons of sleep quality between dysmenorrhea group and non-dysmenorrhea group:The PSQI score of female students in dysmenorrhea group was statistically significantly higher than that of non-dysmenorrhea group(dysmenorrhea group scored 4.54±2.18 vs.non-dysmenorrhea group scored 3.82±1.97,t=4.562,P<0.001),indicating that the sleep quality of female nursing students in dysmenorrhea group was worse than that of female nursing students in non-dysmenorrhea group.3.Logistic regression analysis of the effect of sleep quality on primary dysmenorrhea:Including age, diet, exercise, menarche age, depression and anxiety as the control variables, total score of sleep quality as the independent variable, and the dysmenorrhea as the dependent variable,a logistic analysis was conducted. The results show that after controlling the confounding variables, those students with higher PSQI scores had higher risk of dysmenorrhea(OR=1.13,95%confidence interval:1.04-1.23,P=0.004).Logistic regression analysis was carried out again with 7 factors of PSQI as independent variables,The results show that after controlling the confounding variables, the worse the subjective sleep quality(OR=1.64,95%confidence interval:1.21-2.22,P=0.001)and the more serious the sleep disorder(OR=1.59,95%confidence interval:1.11-2.30,P=0.012)the students reported, the higher the risk of dysmenorrhea they experienced.Conclusions:1.The prevalence of primary dysmenorrhea among female nursing students in higher vocational colleges is high;2.After controlling the effect of related confounding variables, the worse the sleep quality was,the higher the risk of dysmenorrhea was in the female nursing students of higher vocational college;specifically, the worse the subjective sleep quality and the more serious the sleep disorder they reported, the higher the risk of dysmenorrhea they had. |
