BackgroundSleep, the action that may cost one third of people’s life, is one of the basic physiological needs for human, is an important part of people’s life and is also the indispensable guarantee of the human body to maintain health. The damage of sleep problem to people in the world is becoming more serious and affects in more widely range. In China, the impact of sleep problems to college students is also prominent. The college students, who will grow to the important pillar of the country and will be the main builder of society, face various competitions and pressure in society. The society in all walks of life pays more attention on College Students’health problems. Among the main problems that threatened the health of college students, sleep problems become more prominent. Both the college students and many senior high students have sleep problems, which may closely relate to the reflection of the value of individual, to family harmony and to social development. So, student sleep problems should arouse more attention from the school and the Society.Objectives1. to understand the actual situation of sleep quality of college students;2. to analyze various factors affecting the quality of sleep;3. aim at the influencing factors of sleep quality, to put forward the corresponding proposal, to make the way to improve sleep quality and to provide certain theoretical basis for intervention measuresMethodStratified random sampling method was applied to a health survey for 1139 students of a vocational college. A questionnaire survey was conducted on college students, by using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale (PSQI) and a self-prepared 《Sleep Quality influencing factors questionnaire》. And then, the records and the database are analyzed by statistical software SPSS 18.0.Results1. According to the estimated sample size,1150 survey questionnaires were released, with recovery rate 100% and effective rate 99%, including 190 men,949 women. The respondents contain 607 first-grader students,532 second-grade students,189 urban students,267 township students,683 rural students,703 nursing students,231 profession test students and 206 pharmacy students.693 people of the investigators with Education of Junior College, and 446 with technical secondary school. In 1139 subjects,31.0% people have good sleep quality,41.6% for average sleep quality and 27.4% for poor sleep quality.2. The total score of PSQI for the respondents is 6.064±2.963. PSQI score for female is 6.169±2.915, which is a little higher than meal (P=0.007). The difference is mainly reflected in subjective sleep quality, sleep time, sleep problems and daytime dysfunction. Comparing with technical secondary school students, college students have better sleep quality, with P=0.000.3. For the single factor which may affect the sleep quality, study achievement, learning stress, health condition, family economic condition, sleep environment, playing mobile phone at bedtime, employment pressure, classmates and roommates, anxiety, loneliness, the class and grade school activities, get up in the night to urinate have an obvious difference with PSQI score with statistical significance. Family atmosphere, love situation and siesta, have no statistical significance with PSQI scores difference.4. Taking into account of the single factors which have statistical significance into the analysis model, to proceed two classification logistic regression analysis, by using Inclusion and exclusion criteriaa=0.05and β=0.10. The results indicate that the main factors that affect sleep quality are sleep environment, playing mobile phone at bedtime, family economic condition, roommate and get up in the night to urinate.Conclusions1. In this school,27.4% students’ sleep quality is poor, which is an ignored problem. Comparing to male, female has bed sleep quality, which presents in subjective sleep quality, sleep time, sleep disorders and daytime dysfunction. Education has significant effects on the PSQI grade distribution, college students sleep quality worse than technical secondary school students.2. The analyses of factors which effect sleep quality show the flowing terms have important influence on sleep quality, including learning stress, study achievement, employment pressure, sleep environment, playing mobile phone at bedtime, family economic situation, roommates, classmates, anxiety, loneliness, physical condition, school class activities and get up in the night to urinate.3. According to this survey, the following suggestions are proposed to improve the sleep quality of higher vocational students, and to makes their bodies and psychologies have healthy development:carry out sleep health education; strengthen the psychological education; promote the mental health; change bad sleep habits; improve sleep environment; prefect the system of school education and management.
