Objective:To investigate the status of sense of coherence(SOC)in colostomy patients with colorectal cancer, and to explore relationship among sense of coherence, personality traits and coping style. So as to provide theoretical basis for scientific nursing in psychological problems of enterostomy patients and guidance for medical workers in formulating individualized psychological intervention strategies for promoting the physical and mental health of colostomy patients with colorectal cancer. Methods:The study was conducted with a purposive sampling of 245 colostomy patients with colorectal cancer of general surgery clinic and stoma care clinic in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University.Taking Sense of Coherence Scale-13(SOC-13),Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Revised short Scale for Chinese(EPQ-RSC)and Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire(MCMQ)for this cross-sectional survey.Using Epidata 3.1 to establish database.Statistical description, single factor analysis, correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were finished by SPSS 21.0.Results:(1)The status of sense of coherence. The total score of SOC in patients was(56.08±13.72),which was at a low level, the scores of three dimension were comprehensibility(20.96±5.71),manageability(18.70±4.76),meaningfulness(16.42±4.48);SOC of patients had statistical differences(P<0.05)in demographic and disease-related data, such as education level, occupation, average income per person in family, paying ways of medical treatment, current radiotherapy and chemotherapy, knowledge of stoma,self-care level of stoma, whether to participate in stoma activity/lecture and so on.(2)The status of personality traits. The scores of psychoticism(P),introversion/extroversion(E),neuroticism(N)and lie(L)were(3.77±1.68),(6.18±3.65),(7.17±4.16)and(4.91±3.42)respectively;The scores of psychoticism and neuroticism of patients were higher than domestic norm, the scores of introversion/extroversion and lie were lower than domestic norm, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.001).(3)The status of coping style. The score of confrontation was(16.50±4.22),avoidance was(15.99±2.54)and acceptance/resignation was(11.02±3.16).The score of confrontation of patients was lower than domestic norm, the scores of avoidance and acceptance/resignation were higher than domestic norm, and the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.001).(4)Correlation of SOC with personality traits and coping style.Psychoticism and neuroticism of personality traits were negatively correlated with SOC(P<0.05 or P<0.01),introversion/extroversion and lie were positively correlated with SOC(P<0.05 or P<0.01);confrontation of coping style was positively correlated with SOC(P<0.01),avoidance and acceptance/resignation were negatively correlated with SOC(P<0.05 or P<0.01).(5)Multiple linear regression analysis of personality traits and coping style on SOC.Neuroticism and acceptance/resignation entered the regression equation of SOC,it explained 37.2% of the total variation;neuroticism and introversion/extroversion entered the comprehensibility regression equation,it explained 31.2% of the total variation;neuroticism, lie and avoidance entered the manageability regression equation,it explained 29.8% of the total variation;neuroticism,introversion/extroversion and acceptance/resignation entered the meaningfulness regression equation,it explained 38.3% of the total variation.Conclusion:(1)SOC of colostomy patients with colorectal cancer is at a low level, and SOC had statistical differences in demographic and disease-related data, such as education level, occupation, average income per person in family, paying ways of medical treatment, current radiotherapy and chemotherapy, knowledge of stoma,self-care level of stoma, whether to participate in stoma activity/lecture,etc.(2)Colostomy patients with colorectal cancer tend to have personality traits of neuroticism, psychoticism and introversion.(3)Colostomy patients with colorectal cancer tend to take negative coping styles, such as avoidance and acceptance/resignation.(4)Introversion/extroversion,lie and positive coping style(such as confrontation)are positively correlated with SOC of patients;neuroticism, psychoticism and negative coping style(such as avoidance and acceptance/resignation)are negatively correlated with SOC of patients.(5)Personality traits and coping styles have predictive effects on SOC and its dimensions in colostomy patients with colorectal cancer, among which neuroticism and acceptance/resignation have a negative predictive effects on the total score of SOC;neuroticism and introversion/extroversion respectively have negative and positive predictive effects on comprehensibility;neuroticism, lie and avoidance have negative predictive effects on manageability;neuroticism and acceptance/resignation have negative predictive effects on meaningfulness, while introversion/extroversion have positive predictive effects on meaningfulness.
