Primipara Of Parenting Sense Of Competence And Infant Temperament Characteristics Related Research

Objective:Parenting sense of competences of the primipara were investigated to analyze the main influences,meanwhile the infant temperament characteristics were carried out;the correlation was explored between the parenting sense of competence and infant temperament.Methods:This study was a cross-sectional study.A convenience sampling method was used to extract 378 of the pimiparas and their infans who were enrolled in a three level maternal and child health care hospital in Wuhan from July 2017 to November.Some questionnaires were investigated such as the self-designed questionnaire,general data questionnaire,the Parenting sense of competence,the Early Infancy Temperament Questionnaire,the Edinburgh postpartum depression scale,the Social Support Revalued Scale,etc.The SPSS 22.0 statistical software was used to analyze the data.An independent sample t-test,single sample t-test,one-way anova,correlation analysis,and multiple stepwise regression were used to analyze the main factors affecting the parenting sense of competence.Results:In this study,400 questionnaires were distributed,and 378 valid questionnaires were issued.The effective rate was 94.5%.The average age of the 378 primiparas surveyed was(28.09±3.38);The age of infants in 378 infants was from 30 to 52 days.The parenting sense of competence of the score was(69.00±11.2),and the score was(33.94±5.80)and(35.46±8.08)in the two dimensions of parenting efficiency and satisfaction.The postpartum depression occurring was 60.8%,and the social support level was at a moderate level.Primipara’s working condition,culture degree,planned pregnancy,health care conditions,delivery method,maternal health conditions,marital satisfaction and infant health might vary the scores of the parenting sense of competence(p<0.05);not the primary mother’s age,only-child,breast-feeding or infant gender(p>0.05).Some levels of the infant temperament dimensions were higher than that of normal model with one to two months infant.The correlation analysis results showed that the scores of parenting sense of competence were negatively correlated with the response intensity of infant temperament characteristics and attention dispersion(r=-0.235;r=-0.180 p<0.05),and were positively correlated persistence of infant temperament characteristics(r=0.054 p<0.05);the parenting efficiency was positively correlated with the response intensity of infant temperament characteristics and attention dispersion(r=0.270;r=-0.076 p<0.05);The satisfaction scores of primary maternal care were positively correlated with the adaptability and persistence of infant temperament characteristics(r=0.154;r=0.151 p<0.05).And,the scores of the parenting sense of competence and the objective support dimension were positively correlated(r=0.175 p<0.05),while negative correlation with postpartum depression(r=-0.564 p<0.01).Multiple factors analysis showed that the infant health condition,postpartum depression,and temperament characteristics of response intensity(p< 0.05)were the main influence factors of primiparas parenting sense of competence.These factors can explain the 35.0% of the variation of parenting sense of competence score.Delivery methods,postpartum depression,infant health conditions,response intensity and the dispersion characteristic of the infant temperament were the main factors affecting primiparas parenting efficiency,they could explain parenting efficiency dimension scores of 33.2% of the variation.Postpartum depression was the main influencing factor for the parenting satisfaction score,and the variation coefficient of 12.6% of the score of parenting satisfaction could be explained by postpartum depression.Conclusion:The level of the primary parenting sense of competence is at a moderate level,which could be affected by certain factor,such as working condition,cultural degree,planned pregnancy,health care conditions,delivery method,maternal health conditions,marital satisfaction,the response intensity and the dispersion characteristic of the infant temperament.It is a negative association between the degree of dispersion and the reaction intensity of infant temperament characteristics and the parenting sense of competence,postpartum depression as well.There is a positive correlation between parenting sense of competence and objective support.The infant health conditons,postpartum depression and infant temperament is the main influencing factors of the primary parenting sense of competence of the primipara.
