ObjectivesTo develop a questionnaire capable to assess the needs of parents with children admitted in the PICU and that suits Chinese national conditions. To provide a reliable basis for the support of parents of children in PICU.Methods1.Through clinical practice, literature review and semi-structured interviews, this study formed the item pool of the needs of parents with children admitted in the PICU.2.After Delphi experts' consultation and investigation,34 items of the test were formed.3.The convenience sampling method was used to select 7 municipal tertiary hospitals in Henan Province,in which 239 parents whose children were in PICU were surveyed with the purpose of analyzing and evaluating the questionnaire.1)Critical Ratio Value and Relevant Coefficient Method were used to conduct project analysis.2)Content Validity and Structure Validity were used to evaluate the validity of the questionnaire.Content Validity Index(CVI)was used to evaluate the content validity of the questionnaire.3)The reliability of the questionnaire was evaluated by internal consistency reliability test,half-fold reliability and retest reliability system.Results1.81 items were obtained by literature method and semi-structured interviews. After discussion,35 items were remained and divided into six dimensions, including assurance needs(9 items),parents' comfort needs(7 items),information needs(5 items),proximity needs(5 items),communication needs(4 items),and support needs(5 items).2.We held two rounds of Delphi expert consultation, with the experts coming from seven first-class hospitals located outside Henan Province. These are Beijing Children's Hospital,Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University,Children's Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University,Children's Hospital Affiliated to Hunan Province,Children's Hospital Affiliated to Medical College of Zhejiang University,Children's Hospital Affiliated to Chongqing Medical University,Shengjing Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University and the first-Affiliated hospitals. The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, the People's Hospital of Henan Province,Henan Children's Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical College, the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Science and Technology, and Kaifeng Children's Hospital of seven first-class hospitals in Henan Province. After consulting 27 experts(Cr 0.86)from 15 hospitals in related fields of China in total, one item was finally deleted. After preliminary investigation,a test questionnaire of 6 dimensions and 34 items was formed.3.Four items were deleted after project analysis and exploratory factor analysis. The final version of the questionnaire consists of 30 entries in 6 dimensions, including guaranteed needs(7 entries),parents' own comfort needs(7 entries),information needs(4 entries),proximity needs(4 entries),communication needs(4 entries),and supportive needs(4 entries).4.Reliability test(1)Cronbach's ?: The questionnaire's total internal consistency reliability coefficient,i.e.Cronbach's ?,was 0.931,with that of each factor was 0.923,0.898,0.773,0.793,0.816,0.805,0.931.(2)Split-half reliability coefficient: The split-half reliability coefficient was 0.868,and that of each factor was 0.868,0.849,0.753,0.816,0.831,0.762,0.872.(3)Test-retest reliability coefficient: The questionnaire's test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.977,and that of each factor was 0.787,0.988,0.922,0.944,0.530,0.971,0.977,which overall had statistical significance(P<0.01).5.Validation test:(1)Content validation: S-CVI/Ave was 0.89,and I-CVI was 0.78~1.00,and S-CVI/UA was 0.95.(2)Structure validation: Three exploratory factor analyses produced six common factors, with cumulative contribution rates of 67.570%,68.406% and 69.387% respectively.Item factor loads were all in accordance with the(> 0.45)standard.The correlation coefficient between each factor and the questionnaire was 0.640-0.825,and that between each factor was 0.35 2-0.731.Conclusions1.The Parents' Needs Questionnaire for Children in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit(PICU)has 30 items in 6 dimensions, including guaranteed needs, comfort needs, information needs, proximity needs, communication needs and supportive needs, all of which reflect the parents' needs. It has good reliability and certain stability and validity.2.The questionnaire has good applicability and can be used as a tool for assessing the needs of those parents and provide a reliable basis for the support of parents of children in ICU.
