Objective: Evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in treating vascular dementia by using the method of evidence-based medicine. Methods: According to the content of the Cochrane system evaluator's manual 5.1.0,determine the inclusion and exclusion criteria and retrieval strategies.Evaluated the methodological quality of the inclusion literature.Using Revman5.3 software to analysis the quantities of literatures' effectiveness and safety.Taking the efficient scale, simple mental state examination(MMSE),daily life ability scale(ADL),TCM syndrome scale scores(SDSVD),Blessed behavior scale(BBS)and hasegawa dementia scale(HDS)as the ending index to evaluate the effectiveness. The safety was evaluated by the number of adverse reactions. The classified data were evaluated by Relative Risk(RR)and its 95% Confidence interval(CI).The numerical data were evaluated by Standardized mean difference(SMD)and its 95% confidence interval. Results: A total of 1647 literatures were retrieved, and 15 papers were finally included in the research literature, including 1 English literature and 14 Chinese literatures(including 5 dissertations),which included 1055 subjects in total.Being based on intervention to make subgroup, special acupuncture with conventional acupuncture controlled studies using four indexes, comparison with six indexes in acupuncture and western medicine research, using four indicators to contrast the western medicine with acupuncture and western medicine research, using 1 indicators to contrast the acupuncture and rehabilitation research.Meta analysis: special acupuncture treatment of vascular dementia compared with conventional acupuncture group showed that 1 indicator was effective, and no statistical difference was found in the remaining 3 indicators. The acupuncture group was compared with the western medicine Donepezil Hydrochloride Tablets and the Almitrine and Raubasine Tablets group, and it was found that 1 index was effective, and the other 2 indexes did not have statistical differences. There was no statistical difference between acupuncture group and nimodipine group in western medicine. The comparison between the acupuncture group and Co-dergocrine Mesylate Tablets group showed that the 2 indexes were valid, and the remaining 1 indexes did not have statistical differences.Comparing the acupuncture which was combined with Almitrine and Raubasine Tablets group and western medicine, its 4 indicators were effective.Comparing the acupuncture which was combined with oxiracetam group and the western medicine oxiracetam group, its 4 indexes were all invalid.Comparison between acupuncture group and rehabilitation treatment group showed that only 1 indicator was effective, and no statistical difference was found in the remaining 2 syndromes. Conclusion: The clinical results show that acupuncture is effective in treating vascular dementia, especially in improving patients' simple mental state examination scale.
