| Objective: The aim of this study is to test the effect of agnetron sputtering coatings technology on cutting efficiency and wear resistance of Nickel-Titanium files. Methods:Twenty Ni Ti instruments(KV4 File size 25,0.06 taper,Shen Zhen Super Techology)were taken for this study.Ten files were subjected to agnetron sputtering soatings treatment(group A)and Ten files were untreated(group B).Root canals of 40 New plexiglass simulatorss(Dentsply,Switzerland)were instrumented to the working length of 16.0 mm till size 25,0.04 taper using KV4 File 0.04 taper rotary Ni Ti instruments using digital torque control motor(X Smart;Dentsply)by crown down technique. Each instrument was used in 2 root canals. The cutting efficiency of the instrument was assessed from weight loss of plexiglass simulators after instrumentation.Wear resistance was assessed from surface defects on its tip and on cutting edges at 5 mm from the tip pre-and post instrumentation using scanning electron microscope(SEM).These acrylic blocks were weighed to calculate differences in weight before and after preparation. Each instrument was observed under the scanning electron microscope(SEM)before and after instrumentation. The results were analyzed statistically with SPSS 22.0 software package. Results: The mean weight loss of acrylic blocks after use in group A(2.83±0.23 mg)was significantly higher than that of group B(2.42±0.26 mg)(P<0.05).The presence of disrupted cutting edges and pits and deformation at the tip after use were higher in group B(P<0.05).The presence of unwinding after use were higher in group B,but there is no statistically significant difference between the groups(P>0.05).Conclusions: It could be concluded that agnetron sputtering coatings technology has improved the cutting efficiency and wear resistance of Ni Ti endodontic files. |
