Objective: To explore the application value of narrow-band imaging endoscopy in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods: Thirty-one patients with suspected nasopharyngeal carcinoma who underwent nasopharyngoscopy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from August 2017 to April 2018 were examined by electronic white-endoscopy and narrow-band imaging(NBI)electronic endoscopy and biopsy.Based on the histopathological diagnosis results, the diagnostic ability of nasopharyngeal carcinoma was analyzed by the traditional white light mode and narrow-band imaging mode in nasopharyngeal endoscopy.Result: Among 103 patients, there were 69 malignant lesions and 34non-malignant lesions. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of white light endoscopy in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma were 94.2%,70.6%,86.6%,85.7%,and72.8%,respectively.The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of NBI endoscopy were 66.7%,76.5%,85.2%,53.1%,and 52.4%,respectively.The sensitivity of white light endoscopy to the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(94.2%)was higher than that of NBI endoscopy(66.7%).The accuracy of white light endoscopy in the diagnosisof nasopharyngeal carcinoma was higher than that in NBI endoscopy, with statistical significance(χ2=9.237,P=0.002).Conclusions: NBI endoscopy can help identify lymphoproliferative lesions that are difficult to differentiate from nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which has a certain application value in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, for the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma,NBI endoscopy has no advantage over white light endoscopy. The use of NBI endoscopy alone in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma may lead to missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis.
