In recent years, eremology become the focus of scholars, especially those located in the Badain Jaran Desert.Badain Jaran Desert is located in Alxa League in Inner Mongolia,China.Since it is the world's fourth largest desert with 1000-1200 meters height and has the highest megadune in the earth,it is called the Desert Mount Everest. There are more than 100 lakes distributing in this area. However, the climate is dry and windy, and it is still an enigma that where the groundwater comes from,so where does the underground water come from became a doubtful issue among scholars.Ground Penetrating Radar(GPR)survey is a significant technique to detect the underground water due to the high-resolution subsurface exploration. In this study, the GPR experience is conducted in Badain Jaran Desert, aiming for the groundwater detection and further investigating the origin of the lakes.Nowadays, formation water detection plays an important role in the ecological environment research as well as the assessment of agricultural soils, and GPR survey performs important functions in the processes of high resolution subsurface exploration.GPR method has many advantages compared with conventional techniques for moisture content measurement. It has features of nondestructive, low cost and high efficiency. We assume that the method of Amplitude Variation with Offset(AVO)analysis in GPR survey can obtain much more valuable information from detected signals.By using AVO attribute analysis in radar data can prove more valuable stratum information than original data and will improve the accuracy of groundwater evaluation. So we made detection in Badain Jaran Desert with the use of ground penetrating radar and AVO inversion technology. Then we analysis the moisture content and sedimentary facies of the Badain Jaran desert fromthe perspective of geophysics. In this study,we investigate the method of AVO analysis in GPR data and the results showthat AVO analysis method of radar data can be used successfully in groundwater exploration.Details on this detection are discussed in later sections.
