As China's urbanization accelerates, various local governments continue to build affordable housing to improve people's livelihood and solve housing problems for low and middle-income groups. In the process, the inhabitants in urban areas were gradually relocated to the outskirts or dispersed into newly-built communities. There was also a large amount of cultivated land of local peasants, which were occupied by the government.Peasants were forced to move into the urban communities. The population structure of affordable housing is more complicated and a large part of them are older people. The community is the main body of activity of the elderly group. The relocation makes the original social network of the elderly broken, rebuilt, which cause the decline of the social capital ownership, the indifference of neighborhood relations, the narrowing of activities and the weak sense of belonging in the new community.People's physical and mental health is also greatly affected.Existing research also shows that social capital is one of the important factors affecting the health of the elderly. Therefore, this study takes the elderly in affordable housing community as the research object, pays attention to the status quo of social capital in the new community for the elderly with affordable housing and analyzes its relationship with health, hoping to provide some policy recommendations to improve the social security of the elderly in affordable housing capital status and promote the healthy development of community aging.Taking the X community in Shanghai as an example, this study investigated the social capital and physical and mental health of the elderly in X community by means of literature collection, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed the relationship between the two.The findings show that there is a significant correlation between social capital and the physical and mental health of the elderly.Social capital with network, sense of belonging, voluntary participation and trust as the main components have a significant positive correlation with the physical and mental health of the elderly, while reciprocity has not been demonstrated in relation to the physical and mental health of the elderly. In addition, other variables, such as age, marital status, whether or not an account has been moved into the community, also show the correlation between the elderly and their physical and mental health. Then, the present study further summarized the status quo of the social capital and physicaland mental health of the community elders and the current difficulties in community management through the interview data.At last, the related suggestions were put forward.
