In recent years,reality show has entered into the public's horizon and has gained its popularity with a high audience rating.In 2014,Hunan TV launched a new show called "Grade One".It was integrated with elementary education,and was widely praised.Thus,similar campus reality shows like“Back to High School”,“Fight for Alma Mater",“Fresh Man”,"Graduation" appeared subsequently.The paper takes campus reality show as the object of the study,summarizing the characteristics in aspects of characters selection,narrative and audio-visual language through text analysis and comparative study methods.Reality shows are innovative in terms of characters selection.They select representative students with distinct personalities and images in order to attract audience.And the chosen teachers are round in characters which arouse feeling that audience can identify with and serve as a foil for students.Moreover,expressive guests are invited to help students and teachers.On narrative,conflict,suspense and reversal are frequently used to enrich stories and plot twists.In order to enhance the tension of the programme,campus reality show saves important episodes for a better plot design and creates a flexible timetable to make it more attractive.In regard to audio-visual language,it uses stickers and subtitle to enhance the efficiency of information delivery and to enrich the content as well.Besides,proper background music perfectly catches and magnifies characters' emotion which helps to create a great atmosphere.And a flexible shooting method also contributes to the expressiveness of reality shows.This article also probes into existing problems of campus reality shows:firstly,some improper behaviors of participants are exaggerated;secondly,some rules are rigid and less realistic situation is recorded.And the paper suggests that broadcasting positive behaviors should be the main approach to prevent audience from being misled;reality show should reflect the original flavour of campus life and expand material sources.
