The International Media Image Of Henan Since Reform And Opening

With the deepening of economic globalization,the international development of the region is more important than ever.Good international image is the valuable resources that cannot be ignored for the sustainable development of the region.Meanwhile,mass media plays an important role in the process of building and spreading this image,the image it shows becomes the vital access for outside to understand this region.Since the Reform and Opening,the progresses and accomplishments that Henan Province made were significant.With the keeping expanding of economic globalization,Henan started to be involved,while,the international image of Henan was always in inferior position.This paper bases on the analysis of ‘Henan' related reports by mainstre am Western media from 1978 to 2016,study the characteristics,reasons and future image building strategy in the process of constructing Henan international image by those media.From the research,though the mainstream Western media keep their inherently prejudices to some extent,the views are keep transforming.The changing process for the image of Henan was approximately been through closing to opening.At the same time,the mainstream Western newspapers held the whole initiative,however,Henan was often in the passive state without any vocalization.Researcher also found that,A.the reports contents are mainly about the aspect of society and people's lives.Shaolin Temple and Kungfu are main parts of reports for Henan culture,while,there almost nothing related to the vital Henan development policies,they put more attention on the Illegal cases and public safety incidents occurred in Henan Province and most of them just stated the negative events with less deeply reports.B.they built the regional image of Henan of frequent public security accidents,unstable social security,slow economic development,vague political figure,backward urbanization.C.there are same problems when mainstream Western newspapers built regional images for other districts in China,behind that,double value standards is the main reason,and unipolar thinking,the differences between ideology,culture and the penetration spread of Western values all contribute to the disappointing Henan international image.For reversing the overbearing attitude of Western media in international press and the negative image of Henan,as the main administrative body for regional image,the local government should integrate international public opinion environment into the field of regional governance and further enhance the comprehensive strength,improve the guiding intensity of objective reporting and external public opinion,geographical image,cultural image,population image and Government image for ameliorating the international Henan regional image.the international Henan regional image.
