As an important part of language teaching,reading is also a requisite technical ability in the course of language learning.With the development of the society,the English course of primary school has been popularized.The teaching of English reading in primary school has been concerned by teachers and experts as well.However,the teaching of reading in the lower grades of primary schools is still the weak point of English teaching because the limits of traditional ideas and practical conditions in English teaching,which faces many problems and difficulties.The choice of reading material is one of the problems faced by many teachers.The full text is divided into five chapters to discuss.The first chapter shows an introduction about the research background,motivation,purpose and significance of the reading teaching related to English picture books;the second chapter expounds the theoretical foundation of English picture books reading in the lower grades of primary school;the third chapter has a detailed description of the picture book-based teaching experiment;the fourth chapter presents a collection,analysis and discussion of the experimental data;the fifth chapter gets a corresponding conclusion through the data analysis: reading teaching is conducted through English picture books in the lower grade of primary school,which can improve the English reading ability and enhance the interest of students,for example: it can enhance the comprehension and interest of reading,get the reading strategies,expand vocabulary and so on.The main purpose of this study is: to discuss the feasibility of taking English picture books as the reading material for English teaching and to verify the positive effect of the English picture book in improving the reading effect of students and cultivating reading interest.In addition,"how to choose the English picture books that suitable for the students of the lower grade in the primary school to read","the teaching strategies of English picture story book" and other issues are started to study,and the teachers and experts are given some suggestions to refer.The experiment is carried out smoothly on the basis of the previous teaching experiment and educational theory.And it lasted for three months.The picture books selected in this experiment are close to the students' life,and most illustrations of stories are colors,toys,animals and something familiar with the students to arouse their interests in reading.This research mainly adopts literature analysis,questionnaire research,experimental research and other research methods.The 80 students in Grade 4 from Ganzhou Wenqing Road Primary School were selected as the research objects,who started to learn English from Grade 3.They were divided into experimental classes and control classes.In the pre-test,it's found that the English level of the two classes is almost same,and they are comparable.During the experiment,the English picture book is offered to the experimental class.The plain text,which is extracted from the English picture book,is offered to the control class.After teaching,the post-tests are offered to test the grasp situation of vocabulary and context understanding.In the course of the study,the author collected the data through the pre-test and post-test,students and teachers questionnaires,and other forms after the teaching experiment according to the specific research questions,and used SPSS data statistics software and chart to analyze the data,and get the following conclusions:1.The English picture book is consistent with the cognitive characteristics of the lower grade students in primary school,which is used in the teaching of English reading,can effectively improve the reading effects of students,and stimulate the reading interest;in the course of reading,students' vocabulary is enlarged,corresponding reading strategies are learned,and the reading comprehension is improved.2.In the teaching of reading,teachers should choose the English picture books where there are pictures,words,and simple rhythm sentences as reading material,and the reading materials should be suitable for the current language level of the lower grade students in primary school to play the best role of the English picture book to improve students' reading ability.3.During teaching of reading with the English picture books,teachers should carry out appropriate activities according to the story to help or guide students to improve their reading comprehension.The author puts forward the teaching suggestions according to the experimental conclusion.Suggestions are as follows:1.English picture books that are suitable for the students in the lower grades of primary school,which can enhance the interests of reading for lower grade pupils.During the reading process,students can learn the vocabulary and increase the ability of reading comprehension according to the illustrations and contexts.Teachers should not confine the reading materials to the textbook.2.According to the input hypothesis theory,the content of the selected story book should be consistent with the ability of the lower grade pupils,and slightly higher than the knowledge level of students.At the same time,the story should be interesting to arouse students' interest.English picture books should conform the following standards:The language should be rhythmic and repeatable;consistent with the teaching purposes and the language level of students;close to the life of students;can arouse students' interest in reading.3.On the basis of the multiple intelligence theory,teachers need to design the activities related with the story content.Teachers should design different activities to help students master the story,and develop relevant skills before reading,during reading,and after reading.
