Patriotic Objection To GM:A Study On Nationalism Discourse Of GM Issues In Science Communication

After analyzing and inducting the selection of related samples on Tianya,the author divide the nationalism discourses in anti-GM in four styles——nationalism discourse based on science,nationalism discourse based on attitude,nationalism discourse based on interests,and nationalism discourse based on following anti-GM hero.Then,the author discuss and summary three social reasons for the production of these four styles—— the popularity of commercialized research methods,the popularity of naturalism discourse,and the changes of the way in producing public opinions on new media.The study found that these anti-GM nationalism discourses was linked to Taoist's naturalism,humiliated history in China with the symbol of subjugation,and the long-standing anti-intellectualism and rebel spirit in China.Through this process,people opposed to GM intensify their attitude,and build their own patriotic identity to object GM.In the last of the paper,a balance between scientific communication and democratic participation,between rational cognition and value concept need to be made.In a word,the article is expected to reveal the fact that the anti-GM nationalism discourse is not only influenced by ideology,but also give the public a way to construct their identity and rationalize their speech.The nationalism discourse is just an appearance of the tense relationship between science and the public.Actually,the fact that people have different requires based on their own interest is the trouble in science decision and application.
